1. Archbishop Martin NEVER called for resignations, and never recommended resignations or sackings. He did say people should hold themselves accountable. It was the baying media people in Ireland that called for resignations. Few mainstream Catholics called for resignations but media frenzy swayed many to. 2. A/bishop Martin is not the leader of the RCC in Ireland. The Archbishop of Armagh is the Primate of All Ireland. The current holder of that position is Cardinal Brady. Because the Republic and Nth Ireland are separate political entities, the title of Primate of Ireland is given to Dublin’s Archbishop (but not of All Ireland). 3. A/B Martin is therefore subservient to Cardinal Brady within the Irish Church. Cardinal Brady, like all Cardinals, is subservient to the Pope. (However, the Pope governs the world-wide RCC in communion with the College of Cardinals). 4. A/Bishop Martin could not have had his authority undermined by the Vatican since he is subservient to its decisions. 5. Garry O’Sullivan and Niall O’Dowd are completely wrong in the way they present the Irish RC and RCC at large as operating. >>> Get your facts right before you write. You’re only doing the same as the Irish media - led by the anti-Catholic Irish Times (they really should call themselves the ‘English Times in Ireland’) – whipping up unjustified frenzy.
A/b Martin has had his authority undermined, and the only honourable thing for him to do is resign. One of the court cases in the USA has been dropped against the Vatican, but let no one say that the clergy is independent. This proves that everyone, from A/b down, is just an employee.
Der Pope needs to consider some other occupation. I wouldn't recommend lecturing at a boys' school in Bavaria, e.g.
I don't know why Ireland wants to continue taking Shyte from Shyte?!.
Maybe PB16 is afraid of the Domino effect...he too should resign and move on... The Queen moves to Bishop?
The Pope, who is just a man, not a holy god, should also resign... ???
GOD bless the pope. "You are Peter. On this rock I will build my church. The gates of hell will not be strong enough to destroy it. 19 I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. What you lock on earth will be locked in heaven. What you unlock on earth will be unlocked in heaven." St. Matthew 16, 18-19.
@bcoc1124: What God thinks of all this? There is for instance the brilliant pre-judice of Jesus about those coming in his name, like this: Matth. 7:22: On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers!’ Jesus, the Lord in all that context, was pretty sceptical about all those servants coming in his name. He was right when he warned, left no doubt about confidence tricksters, the wolfs in sheeps clothes, for instance. This quote above is making real sense if somebody cares to visit a library, they have plenty of books with the Church, History, etc. and takes a look at history. "You will know them by their fruits!" - thistles or grapes. What is interesting now is that the church, whoever, is ever more forces into escapesim, Jesus and his warnings, his prejudices are simply non-existing, even though they are not printed smaller. The talk is ever more clouds, smoke and funerals, and the after life. Or that the Bible was written a long after Jesus, so nobody really knows anything, even though the prejudices of Jesus, his warnings about questionable servants and false prophets are really clear. That's the dilemma of the Church and theologians now, they obviously have no option left other than escape into disbelieve.
This is the last straw - the "old boy network" at work once again! I wonder what God thinks of all this? - bet she doesn't like it one bit! Not one dime to the church - my charity will be directed to causes I trust, and, obviously it is not the roman catholic church in the guise of its bishops (Bernie Law et al) I am coming to understand Martin Luther's frustration.
