Irish police are investigating a second complaint against the top sports journalist already under investigation over the alleged statutory rape of a teenage girl.

The journalist – named in some papers as Tom Humphries of the Irish Times – is currently undergoing treatment at a Dublin psychiatric hospital.

He can’t be interviewed by police until doctors give the go-ahead but now he faces a second investigation after another girl came forward with a complaint.

According to the Irish Independent, the latest incident happened some time before the alleged rape and involved a different girl who was also mentored by the journalist while she was a member of an underage camogie team.

The second complainant was a member of a different GAA club to the now 16-year-old who has lodged the underage sex allegations against the well known writer.

Senior police officers have confirmed to the Independent that the fresh complaint ‘centers on alleged inappropriate contact between the girl and the journalist, but does not involve rape’.

Officers have already interviewed the girl, now over 18, who approached them after the initial rape allegation was made public.

Police have also said that, while the journalist is likely to remain in hospital for several weeks, they are continuing with their inquiries and interviewing all relevant persons while awaiting his discharge to be authorized by doctors.

The paper also claims that the suspect is likely to be arrested when he leaves hospital and questioned about the complaints before any decision is made to send a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

If the journalist is charged and convicted of statutory rape, he faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

DrT:You don't know if it was on his spare time...that's why GS have obtained warrants to search IT and seize computers..these people have networks of like minded acquaintances who they share images and experiences with...they also specifically form alliances with women with children as this gives legitimate access to victims...If you've got kids...be afraid be very afraid...

No newspaper -- nor any employer, for that matter -- is responsible for what its employees get up to their spare time. So even if the accused is found guilty, it hardly seems likely that the paper will be sued.

Life Imprisonment...muahhaaaahaaahaaahhaaa. Hysterical. The Irish 'Justice' system never has, never will protect women or children. George Gibney- free. Larry Murphy- free. As long as these offenders don't encroach upon the Dublin self-crowned elite and their tidy Dublin 4 gardens, there will never be proactive sentencing and adequate protection for the average Irish citizen. In Ireland all men and women are not equal, and children still have no rights. This fool will hang his head, look pitiful and get the usual 'ah sure it could happen to a Bishop'.
