Broke billionaire Sean Quinn ended up in Mountjoy Prison on Saturday – visiting his son Sean Jr.
As a jail sentence hangs over Quinn Sr’s head, the failed businessman went to see his son in the training unit at the Dublin jail.
Sean Quinn Jr received a three month sentence for contempt of court with Quinn Sr facing a similar time inside if he fails to comply with a court order in a row with the former Anglo Irish Bank.
The Fermanagh man, once Ireland’s richest person, admitted on Friday that he fears going to jail.
And he tried to keep a low profile on Saturday as he accompanied his wife Patricia and daughter-in-law Karen on a visit to Mountjoy.
Quinn looked relaxed as he visited his son for the first time since he was sentenced but he refused to answer questions before the two hours visit.
The family later released a statement which read: “Today we visited our son Sean for the first time in Mountjoy Prison, It was a difficult day for myself and my wife Patricia.
“We arrived at the prison early for our scheduled visit as we were not familiar with the protocol in the prison. After our visit we waited inside the jail hoping for some of the media to leave.”

Its better that quinn retains money of sorts, at least he spread the wealth around him and given the chance would have created a lot more jobs ,which would in turn help the economy. Can`t say the banks are doing that. They have rendered thousands of small business`s into liquidation by calling in and cancelling overdraft facilities. Theres a golden rule that all business`s depend on cash flow yet the banks ignored it.

Little joyous about Mountjoy! (Google it!) Pervasive smell of stale urine from chamber pots in this Victorian gaol being slopped out every morning before brekkie, or being thrown from third floor landing due to some feud between prisoners. All in the distinguished company of pimps, pushers and prostitutes, in one person cells shared by four people, with no in cell sanitation. "Guests of the nation", as working class Dublin writer Brendan Behan once wrote. And he knew. Still, the gingle jangle of the auld triangle has been heard by Ministers of Justice before. Can we anticipate a campaign for the release of the Maple 10.
