As a retired Garda, I can confirm that Garda cars are mostly called Squad cars.
The reason BTB never heard police vehicles called squad cars is becausae he's from Northern Ireland, where they drove armoured vehicles (or tanks) due to political dissent there. Think he's gittery about Michael Collin's Squad. The singular Gaelic/Irish noun 'Garda' referes to the police force as a whole, since there's only one of them. Garda/ai sing/plur referes to invididual members of the overall Án Gárda Síochána.
We call them squad cars in Connemara
abhainn, I live in Ireland and have never heard Garda cars called squad cars. Where do you live that they're called squad cars, New York?
Bythebay, are you Irish or American? Irish people know that police cars are commonly called squad cars, and have been so-called for at least fifty years in Ireland.
This is how Comrade Duch got his start !
They call them Squad cars in Sligo.
They're not Squad cars in Ireland, that's NY.
Garda car is the singular, gardai is the plural of the word.
Kids will be kids, make 'em pay all costs ,learned lesson!
