WHY DO YOU NOT GET IT IRELAND IT IS NOT THE BREED IT IS THE DEED AND LENNOX IS INNOCENT .... HES NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG...... BUT HAS HAD WRONG DONE TO HIM!!!!!!
I have never read such bullshxt, some of these posters beleive that if a child answers back just shoot it,no wonder Northern Ireland is in such a mess. The bottom line if Lennox dies, then there will be plenty petitions asking animal-lovers not to spend one penny in N.Ireland.
@ Trealach: I dont know where you get your information from but abortion is illegal in Northern Ireland. It is only legal in exceptional circumstances where the life of the pregnant woman is at immediate risk and if there is a long term or permanent risk to her physical or mental health.
All the ranting and raving on both sides comes down to the save Lennox crowd believe that the dog wardens, trainers and judge are in some sort of conspiracy against the dog. Lennox never threatened “at the first meeting” the dog warden enough for there to have been a legitimate concern under the current laws. The people who believe the system is working fine say the system seems to be working fine. If dog experts like Cesar Milan and Pete Wedderburn and sirpeter can have their opinions then why cant the experts we have locally in place to in force current laws have theirs. Additionally the owners own testimony calls into question about previous incidents and her own admission that the dog has issues with new people. I am curious why she brings that up? All dogs have issues with new people in my opinion. What is she trying to protect with regards to Lennox’s behavior. I believe Lennox is the wrong poster child to be fighting this fight and the whole evidence submitted for supporting this is a character assignation of the individuals involved in the “crucifixion of Lennox” let alone the Lennox supporters who have harassed the other neighborhood dog wardens and their children.
IrishMark.I'm not talking about hunting dogs or dogs used for protection.I was talking about dogs where these skills are not used or needed.I agree the small "cute" pedigree dogs tend to be highly strung.Lennox is a pet dog.If he's not aggressive I don't see any reason to put him down.We have laws in Ireland where you can only use reasonable force on a burglar. In other words if you catch him in your house you can't beat his brains out with a baseball bat.Though a judge will give a person a hell of alot of leeway. You would be in real trouble if you had a dog for protection and the dog killed a burglar.Because that shows intent to harm.A dog that kills is using lethal force where it might not be necessary.A wayward minor might go on to your property too and get badly mauled or worse. Those are the laws here. The fact Lennox was wearing a muzzle concerns me too a bit.I wonder why?I never had to muzzle a dog and to be honest I think it is cruel. If this is a bad call, then it's a bad call and the dog should not be put down.Maybe they lied saying the dog got aggressive and maybe the owners were extremely careful and kept the dog muzzled just for safety sake.I would if I had a newborn baby around just for a few months.Dogs do get jealous and no animal is totally pedictable. If a stranger can approach Lennox and he doesn't growl. He should not be killed. That would be my take on it.
Sorry that should third line should say "breeding the prey drive out"
@- sirpeter. I'm afraid we'll have to disagree on that one Peter, a one size fits all doesn't work here. A hunting dog with a temperament close to a guide dog, which would mean breeding the prey drive, wouldn't be a very successful hunting dog now would he? Likewise a guard dog wouldn't be kept in his employment long if he worried more for the welfare of the guy breaking in than protecting his home, how could you put down this dog for showing aggression to a burglar? Of course ANY dog can be aggressive, and in my experience it's usually the small "cute" ones, which is why laws, such as 'not allowing your dog to roam off your property' and the muzzling of certain breeds are in place. Lennox was in his own home, wearing a muzzle when the dog warden called to renew his license. He is being put to sleep because of the way he looks,( a DNA test prove he is a labrador American bull dog cross) his litter mate 'Diesel' has been declared not pit bull type by the same council despite being born only moments apart! Dr Roger Mugford, animal behaviourist, has written extensively on dog behaviour and the ridiculous witch hunt that is BSL. In my own opinion Belfast city council have shown such incompetence here that they cannot back down for fear of losing face and being sued by owners of dogs already put to sleep for this.
@IrishMark. Somebody has to make a judgement on weather this dog is a potential danger or not.If any dog attacks or threatened to attack a human for no reason.I'd have no problem shooting every last one of them dead.I had/have dogs all my life.I know how to train them because I know a dogs instinct and how they react to situations.Cesar Milan and Pete Wedderburn statement, while correct is misleading.Any dog CAN be a very serious threat to a baby or a small child basically because no matter how well trained, they still retain their basic instincts and can act on them.95% of dog owners treat their dogs poorly because for starters they only have one dog.Anyone who only has one dog has failed already in rearing a mentally fit dog. They are pack animals and detest WITH THEIR WHOLE BEING,been left on their own at ANY stage. They instinctively feel vulnerable and in danger. This is why most dogs greet their Alpha male/female/Owners or Pack/Family with extreme body language after been left alone for an extended period. If Lennox has been in any way been aggressive to humans,he has not been trained.Any dog showing ANY aggression should be put down straight away. All dogs should have the temperament or somewhat close to a guide dog.
I agree with you 100% IrishMark.
@Trealach-If you read the 'facts' of this story you would see that the 'fuss' is over the disabled child who owns the dog and the incredibly suspicious methods of belfast city council, who were happy to license the dog for years until they saw him and declared he was dangerous after measuring him! These so called 'expert' council officials then ripped him from his family and couldn't understand why the dog would be hostile towards such behaviour?? BSL is simply BS!, a dog brought up in a bad home will be bad tempered the same as a person would be. Dog behaviour expert Cesar Milan and our own Pete Wedderburn, among others, agree that no particular breed is born to attack people, it's just some low lives train them for that. Given the right home a (so-called vicious breed of dog)could be the most gentle of all! Of course belfast city council believe that they know better than actual experts because they all carry a measuring tape! P.S., if this dog had actually bitten a person he would've been put to sleep a long time ago.
@Brymann1991 - Northern Ireland is subject to the British jurisdiction and laws, which provide for abortion - NOT the Republic's laws or constitution. Perhaps you need to check your 'facts' a little better.
Trealach . Really is that a fact because last time i checked abortion was not legal on any part of the Island of Ireland which includes the north . So i'd love to know where you got that fact.
All this fuss over a damned dog, and not a word said when thousands of babies are aborted in Northern Ireland!! now THAT is SICK!!
LET LENNOX GO HOME NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So now we are to ignore the two reported attacks?
