"In addition to not knowing whether or not Africa was a continent, according to sources in the McCain campaign, Sarah Palin also didn't
understand the difference between England and Great Britain. And much, much more."
  — The Huffington Post

What doesn't Sarah Palin know, and when didn't she know it? It's a mystery for those of us in the global Irish community. Is London the capital of Northern Ireland to Palin? Or is London the capital of all of Ireland? Or is London a record company and not the capital of anything?

Alas, we won't have to wait too long for the wit (?) and wisdom (?!) of Sarah Palin. Her new book — something of an astonishment in itself in that it involves nouns and verbs — comes out today, and Amazon.com has carefully gauged the market for this Bible-like tome. The online bookstore has reduced the pre-order price of "Going Rogue: An American Life" from $28.99 to $9. Smart.

The Huffington Post has skillfully gotten its hands on a copy — hopefully not by paying full price — and has already had at it.

What we have learned about Palin so far is that just as there are cities, nations, continents and perhaps even planets she has never heard of, she has obviously never heard the wisdom of America's greatest writer, Mark Twain, who famously warned: "Better to remain silent and be thought the fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt."

There is no doubt left about Palin.

Like the Vatican, I do not believe it is necessary to actually read a book or see a movie in order to condemn it as complete, utter, heretical trash. And I could make better use of the $9 just by getting a very, very small coffee at Starbucks. And so, my judgment is that "Going Rogue" is garbage. God bless you, too.

Still, we can learn what to expect of her new crock-buster by looking at the best judge of the future: the past - which is rich with what we now call "Palinisms." The quotes and comments that this woman straight out of the movie "Fargo" made during the campaign provide a window into what seems to be the very empty house of her mind.

This brilliant top-ten collection is from the brilliant Daniel Kurtzman of About.com. Enjoy, and visit Kurtzman's surgical strikes and related videos that, almost pathetically, show her - and not Saturday Night Live comedian Tina Fey - saying these gems:

So plasticpaddy melts away from Irishweatherman's educated arguments. Hope the sun doesn't get too close!
Without being fired, maybe its because I don't peddle lies, I work hard and do a damn good job. This will be my last post, but you weatherman are extremely rude and obnoxious, completely deluded as to the logic behind your beliefs, not that your beliefs are necessarily crazy but how you back them up with complete lack of regard for any facts or reasoniong, or logic of any kind. All you do is personally incult people and call them stupid without any substance to your arguments. You quote the liberals of the last century as carrying on the same veign of thought as the classical liberals ( to which both parties could be and are linked. I promise this is my last post on this thread as I am sick of being insulted by of all things a Palin supporter. Any conservative of any remotely informed opinion would distance themselves from the dangerous path Palin and her 'simple' 'conservatives' would have the party go down. Shes an extremist on issues she knows nothing about. I hope she fades quickly so as to not drag another election down the gutter. I wish you luck weatherman in your pursuit of the fake, the cowardly, the easy option and continued insult to intelligence.
Well Irishweatherman, I guess we are both going to have to wait and see how the winds will blow for Mrs. Palin
You are both wasting your time. Paddy you obviously have no clue whatsoever in the realm of politics OR economics for that matter. I pray that your job is in no way related in either field. If so, how you have manged to last this long without being fired is beyond me. And Mac, You have very poor arguments when it comes to Sarah Palin. You are grasping at straws. it's almost as if you are trying to hate her for the sake of hating her. Have you even read this book? You make judgments based on situations that you don't even have a clue as to what happened. You base your opinions on that of the media who obviously is biased against her. If Obama walked away, you bet we would be on him like white on rice. he is the president of the US, leader of the free world. Palin was gov of AK. OK so...your point? She CLEARLY explained why she did it, and she did it putting the best interest of the people of AK at heart. Obama did not overcome great adversity. He had help, and during the campaign he had 3 networks in his corner. You can't beat that. So I give him no credit. Besides, he has done nothing for the country yet. (FYI, my grandparents are still in Ireland, so they met no adversity)
wasting your time McNamara31
My comments have been about Mrs. Palin's character, lack of substance and intellect for the "job" along with her track record of meeting each and every critique or criticism as a victim. She has total lack of loyality when she decideds to go Rogue on everyone who was loyal to her ie: people of Alaska, McCain camp. You, who have completed not one, but two military missions to completion, for this country has thrown his heart behind someone who walks away for self interest each time. And, as for her explaination for walking away just imagine what you would be saying if Obama had said it. Then it would be transparent to you. And as for your hate and loating that you always throw in there. Can't you just for one minute contimplate that Obama overcame great adversity, educated himself and became a self made man much like our Irish grandparents did when they arrived here? My whole family has seved in the military so please don't try to paint me as someone who doesn't love and admire this country. It has just sickened me how this whole world of Fox TV and conservative radio has smeared this past election, and for the most part, Mrs. Palin was out there being their pitbull.
As I have said before.....if all you can bring to this argument is her stepping down from her term as governor, you have already lost. She has explained clearly why she did it, and she has the support of her constituents.
Irishwxman There's no loathing on my part. Simply Facts.People in Alaska voted for her and she walked away. For money. For a book deal. She quit.
McNamara...take your fear and loathing of Sarah Palin elsewhere. She is bigger than you and the fact that you are so afraid of her only makes her bigger. And those of us who love her, just sit back an laugh. Paddy, I don't know what to say anymore to you. With every post you are shoveling a deeper and deeper hole for yourself. If you were anymore wrong you would be going back in time.
Ok, Socialism and Liberalism have been completely defined but the most important definition pertaining to this article is: a Noun 1. quitter - a person who gives up too easily individual, mortal, person, somebody, someone, soul - a human being; "there was too much for one person to do" abdicator - one who formally relinquishes an office or responsibility dropout - someone who quits school before graduation apostate, deserter, ratter, turncoat, recreant, renegade - a disloyal person who betrays or deserts his cause or religion or political party or friend etc.
your def of liberal is so vague it would include yourself.
"This later included government intervention in the economy to provide full employment and protection of human rights. Basically Socialism" - but not exactly, you contradict yourself, i don't even have to make the argument with you.
Classical liberalism is a political ideology that developed in the 19th century in England, Western Europe, and the Americas. It followed earlier forms of liberalism in its commitment to personal freedom and to government by the people and for the people, but differed from earlier forms of liberalism in its commitment to free markets and opposition to tariffs and government monopolies. - as easy as wiki-ing it.
lib·er·al·ism: A political theory founded on the autonomy of the individual and favoring civil and political liberties, government by law with the consent of the governed, and protection from arbitrary authority. Now genius...tell me where in that definition there is anything referring to economics. You can't because it is an IDEOLOGY NOT AN ECONOMIC TERM. Jeeze Louise you are thicker than a ditch my man. Liberalism is an ideology, as is Libertarianism and conservatism. Now SOCIAL Liberalism is an economic term meaning that unrestrained capitalism is a hindrance to true freedom. Instead of the negative freedom of classical liberalism, social liberals offered positive freedom that would allow individuals to prosper with public assistance in health, education and welfare. This later included government intervention in the economy to provide full employment and protection of human rights. Basically Socialism. Big government. You pretend to know, but you can't BS your way out of this one.
ha ha weatherman,I am not saying it is fascist I am saying that all three main ideologies capitalism, socialism and fascism can have high levels of government control. Also liberalism is misused in the United States as a term to describe people left of centre of the political spectrum. Liberalism is indeed an economic term in which the roots of capitalism are to be found and funnily enough it is much closer to your point of view than mine, despite its 'popular' use in the US as denoting social democrats. I don't even mind you insulting my intelligence, your not a peer of mine. Vincent - with all due respect you would only get my take on socialism/communism and should read those books yourself and take from them what you will. you might find that they aid your argument and strengthen your viewpoint, or the opposite, but you should read the major contributors, you will definitely understand how Stalinism could never fit with the Marxist theory of Communism.
