Ryanair hits turbulence over sexy staff pin-up calendar

Bookmark and Share

Ryanair has flown straight into a new media storm over its 2010 charity calendar which features its own scantily clad employees.

The National Women's Council of Ireland (NWCI) has slammed the airline as "irredeemably old-fashioned" and accused it of a  "serious lack of imagination."

In response, Michael O'Leary's airline said the calendar was empowering for women and said the NWCI didn't have "a clue how young women empower themselves."

Describing the calendar as a work of "art," a spokesman said it was "a step up from last year which makes it a little bit sexier."

The spokesman Stephen McNamara (a man of course!) said the calendar was used to raise massive amounts of money for charities and that they were hoping that they would raise $160,000 next year.

He said all staff participating in the calendar did so on a voluntary basis.

Last year, Ryanair was rocked by revelations that one of its staff was a part-time porn star.
It is not known whether or not the porn star Edita Bente will be featured in next year's calendar.

No need to call last call to board Ryanair--I'll be early!
Ryanair exploit anything and everything they can, including the possible charge of a pound for using the loo! In their eyes women are no different and the women who allow themselves to be exploited in this way are fools to themselves and a disgrace to womanhood.
This idea has got really old and the women are "empowered? I would consider them exploited rather than empowered or perhaps exhibitionism is a new form of empowerment.
"the 2010 Ryanair Cabin Crew Charity Calendar, which the airline hopes will raise 110,000 euro for the UK charity 'KIDS'" That about sums it up. It's a stunt in Britain, appealing to the notoriously salacious British, for the benefit of the British. Ryanair is about as Irish as Tofu is cheese.
Well I am 83 but not dead yet that is most of me hahaha I would settle for not the coleens but photos of Ryanair destinations which would be interesting seeing I was with the old PanAm of the 50's come on fella's keep and open mind
When companies and individuals resort to calendars like this it deavlues the image of the company and the sause it purports to support. Perhaps KIDS charity in the UK should reconsider to what they are committed if they accept the proceeds of this stunt? Fine if it's for a charity supporting testosterone-challenged men who can't afford viagra, but surely not a charity for children!
Come on now willieboy. Not all women are against the calendar. I bought one two years ago and gave it to my boyfriend just to support the cause. :)
Oh, how terrible. Ireland's economy is falling apart by the minute, Aer Lingus won't fly into Shannon anymore and this is a problem. NWCI's time could surely be spent on more important matters. Why not start with unnecessary breast augmentation? The beauty in the middle could be a poster child.
com'on ladies. Where's the harm? jealous?
Faith and I think the ladies of the National Women's Council of Ireland are a wee bit jealize of some good looking ladies. You can go to the beach or a public pool and see the same attire. So what is the fuss?
http://quietriots.com/issues/220-pin-up-calendar For or against?
Bravo girls...the blistered knee brigade are only jealous.
Where can I get my calendar?
ABSOLUTETY BEAUTIFUL.
Anybody have any phone numbers?
From the looks of the preview pic, I would suggest we add several months to next year. Please let it never end!
Last year I bought this calendar not for Ryanair but because it should be up to who is in it whether or not they want to shed clothes etc... hello womans movement. Personally, I wouldn't do it but that is just me. If you don't want to see it dont buy it. Be proud ladies!!!
