Undisputed king of talk radio Rush Limbaugh has apparently just reached the fourth stage of Elisabeth Kubler-Ross's five stages of grief: depression.

On Thursday on his radio show Limbaugh startled his devoted listeners and stirred up a hornet's nest by bluntly stating on his show that he's 'ashamed' of America for the first time in his life.

Limbaugh was expressing the kind of dramatic sentiment that never fails to roil his listeners (and himself) when expressed by any left leaning politician or celebrity. But yesterday was different. Yesterday the sentiment was being expressed by the unacknowledged head of the Republican Party.

According to the Huffington Post Limbaugh clarified his statement yesterday by insisting he had only been referring to his disappointment with the liberal direction that the nation is taking.

'To be watching all of this, to be treated like this, to have our common sense and intelligence insulted the way it's being insulted? It just makes me ashamed,' Limbaugh said on Thursday.

But yesterday the pundit was back-peddling furiously.

'I realize that many of you tuned in today wanting to hear more of this,' Limbaugh said. 'You wanted to hear what this is all about. You wanted to hear more about it, and I haven't really discussed it yet and you're probably angry, and I want to tell you why.'

Listeners had demanded that Limbaugh clarify his comments, which he did on Friday by explaining he's frustrated by the direction of the nation and by the country's liberal leanings.

'The left has beaten us,' Limbaugh said on his Friday show. 'They have created far more low-information, unaware, uneducated people than we’ve been able to keep up with.

'I’ve always had a Civics 101 view of the country: People get what they want, they vote what they want, and they get the way they vote.'

In a sweeping sea to shining sea portrait of leftist social engineering, Limbaugh painted a nightmare picture of liberal dominance.

'Democrats control the education system, pop culture, movies, TV and books' and they do it by creating 'dependency' and by scaring voters into believing the Right will take it all away if elected.

'I’m fed up with it,' he concluded. 'I can’t do it anymore. The whole thing is shamefully absurd. I don’t know how else to say it.'

But regular listeners doubt that we have heard the last from the portly pundit.

The left-right dichotomy in the US has become an illusion – Obama is merely a more extreme version of Bush. It is evolving into a nation with a permanent lower middle class ruled by a combination of financial and governmental /bureaucratic elites (with the two overlapping in many respects).
It's sad that the Left & Right in America are both extremist in their own way. The current Deficit Crisis proves this as both sides are blinded by their own bullshit.
there is nothing remotely left wing about the usa, especially it political miitary arnament dominated policy makers.if left wing thought is to provide a better more equal fairer society, instead of an ivy league bankster elite, bring it on,and he the fat cat,fat ass, sure dont look hungry to me.or even have the faintest idea of what its like to be poor, down trodden and ignored, thats what left wing thought is all about, the eliviation of despair, and the illumination of hope.
I am sure it has been said already, but feel free to leave Mr Limbaugh.
Hey Jarhead54, er Exmarine54, Your choice of words, "accepting the truths of history," echos the old Marist-Leninist reply to the question of What do you Believe In? The proper answer was, "History," indicating that communist style socialism was inevitable. This meant that analytical thinking was not tolorated and a knee-jerk reaction to anyone who thinks differntly was encouraged. Many of the comments illustrate this much too well.
This diabolical deviant, Rush Limbaugh, is so out of touch. He is living in the 1% of the US population and spouts negativity about the other 99%. It is so devastating to him and his ilk that the poor and disadvantaged, and other citizens that make up the 99% have differing views and practices and are not controlled by the rich old white men, that he generates propaganda to further his views. No semblance to the truth is required. He knows that the USA demographics have changed and that the "white" population is no longer in complete control, and has also recently become aware that money can't buy all the elections. He and his rich white friends are in a quandary trying to figure out how to influence the non-whites to vote Republican without allowing them to take control of the Republican Party. There are probably enough rich old white men in the party that they would rather lose the elections as long as they can buy off enough politicians to keep their wealth.
Yes, isnt it so so so sad that Mrs Limbaugh's little boi, Rushie nee Russia, is overwhelmed at the loss in November (Ma? wasnt that months ago, even last year???) alas for some, accepting the truths of history is a very difficult pill to swallow...and isnt his statement so similar to the first Lady prior to her husband's election, about embarrassment at being american,,,my didnt he jump all over that statement...I truly hope he is engulfed in an overwhelming depression...but then that would require feelings,,,and truly? Little Rushie is devoid of the ability to feel, to empathize...he can only attempt to belittle, debase, and reject....how sad a life to continue and then to look back at as he ages and acknowledge that all he stood for was to criticize and reject...he stands for nothing, only emptiness...
Seanomelb, I do not watch Hannity. This was on the Chris Matthews show. I have not ever listened to Rush Limbaugh show
Rush has it right. Not a huge fan, but he got this one right.
The Left is winning because it's smarter and harder working. Rush's myth that Democrats "win by encouraging dependency" is the opposite of the truth. The most recent election for which we have data, '08, shows that in US counties that voted heavily Dem for president, nearly one-third (32.7%) of adults had completed post-secondary education; in counties that voted Repub by 20 or more points, only one-fifth (20.4%) had post-secondary education or more. Education generally translates into higher earnings. In the 500-plus counties that voted heavily Dem, per capita income was 50% higher than in counties that voted heavily Repub. So which party encourages dependency and manipulates financially dependent people? (Data from Bill Bishop and Robert Cushing, online.)
The majority of Americans voted "liberal" at the presidential election Limbaugh like his rump teaparty pals just cannot move on. Wonder what Mrs. Obama's next sentence was. maggie47 listens to Hannity wher the truth is left on the cutting room floor
But, its ok for Mrs Obama to be "for the first time in my life i'm proud of my country" Wonder who paid for her education?
Rush is right. The looters now run the country, and the moochers continue to vote for them.
Is that picture really the best you could find?
Love it or leave it, Big Boy! ... P.S. Republican corporate lobbyists and thei Tea party pals still rule the USA.
