Rush Limbaugh knows why the majority of Americans voted for Barack Obama. It had nothing to do with the public rejecting the Republican platform, Limbaugh believes.
Instead according to the Examiner the portly pundit has insisted on his radio show this week that most Americans voted for Obama to 'erase slavery.' As if one vote in an election could wipe out centuries of brutal human exploitation.
Obama made history in 2008 when he became the first African-American president in the history of the United States. For Limbaugh that one fact apparently instantly redresses every historical grievance experienced by generations of African Americans.
'He's the first black president. A lot of people voted for Obama in 2008 because that vote did a number of things, individually. That vote made those people feel good about themselves. Those people, when they voted for Obama, said, 'I am not a racist, and nobody can ever say I am!'
'That's number one. Number two: That vote was gonna fix the race problem. It was gonna erase slavery. It was gonna eliminate all the horrible things in this nation's past. Finally we were going to, as a nation, speak up and say in one voice, 'We are no longer racist! We are no longer a slave state.' Then, the blank canvas aspect of Obama. He stood for anything you wanted him be. Those people are not going to admit that they made a mistake.'
See, it wasn't that they rejected the GOP platform. It was simply to make themselves feel better about America's history.
It suggests that the far right and its anointed spokesman are still uninterested in learning the lesson of 2012.

Your prayers were answered TisEyerish,Obama did not come from great wealth.

Race and/or slavery had nothing to do with my voting for Obama. Frankly, the reason he got my vote was because I felt he was the lesser of two evils. Mitt doesn't have the vaguest idea of what it is like to be an American caught in the grip of the bank disaster that occurred several years ago and has not let go of many of us yet. The sad fact is...we didn't much of a choice at all this time around. I didn't so much vote for Obama as I voted against Mitt. In my opinion, neither of them should be in the White House. What we really need in the Oval Office is a person who did not come from great wealth and can, therefore, identify with those of us who work(ed) for a living; someone who understands the needs of "everyday people."

BTW, the lesson of 2012 was vote for Romney. It will take longer for us to get rid of the disaster of Obamacare.

Rush was obviously making a larger point and usually points-out absurdity with in your face dripping sarcasm.

Rush also said people would vote against Bush, even though Bush was gone. Obama still can't take the blame for the mess he has made in our Country! Obama will never accept responsibility for spending us into oblivion, his actions have caused job losses every month! I don't know if people voted because O is black or if he spouted class warfare, but they sure didn't do this Country a favor by electing him!

Jefferson really looked after his slaves what poppycock. He never emancipated any of them nor did he mind porking them
EphraimKibbey | Feb 17, 2013, 06:26 PM EST
He is such a simple, obvious, IDIOT! Just pathetic! We could elect black Presidents forever and we would still not have erased the crime of slavery! Does he think that voting for the Violence against Women Act will wipe out what we did to Native Americans because it includes provisions for women on reservations? Does he think that you can erase the Holocaust by treating Israel fairly now? No one can ever "ERASE" these crimes against humanity. We can only treat EVERYONE fairly in the future and guard against doing more evil. That means guarding against what Limbaugh and his ilk preach!

The man Ronald Reagan called "the Number One voice for conservatism in our Country" Rush Limbaugh, continues to be a pathetic example of a human life form. I wonder if Reagan would compliment this bigoted degenerate today. I doubt it. If anyone has caught his radio broadcast, you know he often refers to his upbringing in his lawyer filled conservative(cracker)home which including "his" African American maid. In his perspective about why people voted for the clearly superior candidate, in the 2012 election, Limbaugh continues to stay mired within the constraints of his biased small thinking as the world moves past him, and those like him. Dinosaurs do still walk among us!

Jefferson kept detailed records - slave Jupiter received woolen cloth, shirting, a hat and summer clothes. Some slaves were granted more than others in this year, and a few received nothing at all, as recorded in his Farm Book of the food, clothing, and blankets that he distributed to his slaves

When Millions of Americans reject the tired pleas of bigotry and the unworkable programs of the past not once but TWICE, even in the face of organized attempts at voter suppression and rigged voting machines, those "pundits" of the rejected right HAVE to find something or someone to blame. This "feel good" excuse is as good as any, and it may have factored into something less than 1% of the vote. I just wish we'd hear more about responsible Republicans working to restore responsible OPTIONS and to find responsible candidates to COMPROMISE with their opponents and GOVERN (the true JOB of a political party) rather than touting shallow excuses. Until they do that, we'll be guaranteed not just the next 4 years but the next eight to sixteen years of good government controlled by the other party. A REAL political party finds out what the electorate wants and finds a financially and ethically responsible way to GIVE it to them! This is not "buying votes" or gifting "stuff" to special interests - this is GOOD GOVERNMENT as the founders understood it. We Republicans have to take our party BACK or be left in the dust like the Whigs.

Jefferson's bairns born to his female slave Sally Hemming - enough 'bout that - back to .. As a personal valet, Jupiter dressed Thomas and accompanied him on travels. In this intimate role, he gained Thomas' trust and earned privileges. He was often sent out alone on errands involving large monetary sums.

2nd amendment guy - Writing on Jupiter's death, Thomas acknowledged the loss both emotionally and practically. "I am, sorry for him," Jefferson wrote of Jupiter, "as well as sensible he leaves a void in my administration which I cannot fill up."
cillowen | Feb 16, 2013, 10:13 PM EST
Jefferson's slaves were constantly employed, working up to 14-hour days. Although Jefferson provided for his slaves better than most, he rarely considered their freedom. The labor, even of a companion like Jupiter, was too valuable.

More lazy leftist journalism. He is saying the people who voted for Obama may have felt that way. I want to thank you for tackling the really important issues of the day. I'm sure glad your are not interested in what really happened in Benghazi. Or the ongoing recession or record unemployment. I am so glad you are don't question your government, your are only interested in attacking those that do. Walter Duranty would be very proud of all of you - look him up as I certain you Intellectual JOURNALISTS have never heard of him before.

Talk about living in a state of denial!! Dumb Limbaugh like most of his teaparty racist pals just cannot come to terms with the fact that the majority of Americans canned them, mostly for been stupid and ignorant.
Glendalouch | Feb 16, 2013, 04:28 PM EST
WHAT AN ARSE!!! My vote was for a last ditch effort in saving the country and middle/lower class from total collapse after eight years of Bush's inept presidency. Anyone ever notice this jerk is always inventing problems yet seldom offers real solutions? He is a parasite on humanity. Am I all alone in not seeing a black man, but just a man serving us in the office of president? Rush and his narrow-minded minions need to stand aside and let this republic move upward and onward.

Limbaugh is one of the most despicable demagogues this country has ever produced. This guy never allows facts or the truth to seep into his verbal cesspool. Deep down his idols are undeniably Joseph Goebbels and Julius Streicher, the crafty engineers of the Nazi propaganda machinery.

"Rush Limbaugh is a BIG Fat Slob". And I thank you, Michael Moore for allowing me to quote you.

Bostonians voted JFK's grandpa, 'Honey" Fitz, as the first irish mayor of their city because of what the British had done in Ireland; Abe Ribicoff was voted the first Jewish governor of Connecticut, because of the Holocaust; Mitt Romney was voted the fist Mormon governor of Massachusetts because of the slaying of Joseph Smith in Nauvoo, Ill. All makes sense when you think about it.

"It all depends on what the meaning of 'is' is". It is all about a rebellion against any symbol of authority. It is all about license and not freedom. It is a marxist onslaught against Jonathan Edwards. "Sense and sensibility" has been replaced by Ellen.

I believe Limbaugh is a racist, rich, old Republican who just can`t accept that his white status is losing its’ lustre. Once he loses his podium he will fade into oblivion where he belongs. The fact that a man in the USA who is visibly non-white became President of the USA is so galling to him and his privileged white cronies that will say and do anything to try and explain away how this could possibly have happened. He just cannot accept that someone he believes to be inferior to him because of his color could be so immensely superior to him. He seems to be like "white trailer trash" who are happy with their status just because they are not black. Limbaugh has an explanation for the 2008 election, but that explanation is flawed if applied to the 2012 election because he was already elected. Oh wait a minute, there are other excuses for the 2012 election loss. Chris Christie & Hurricane Sandy. The fact that the smug, self righteous, egotistical Romney and his gang of rich, gun toting old white men couldn't buy the election was a real comeuppance for them. The real problem for Limbaugh and his old white cronies is how to fool anyone who is not a white male into believing the party will change and get them to vote Republican but still keep the control in the grasp of the rich old white men. The GOP are the dregs of society in the USA. The only thing they have is money and they are fighting tooth and nail to maintain their financial status and keep the poor and disadvantaged where they are financially so they can take advantage of cheap labor to increase their wealth.

Not right at all....that is not why people voted for Obama.
wjb1tex | Feb 16, 2013, 09:44 AM EST
Surely you understand he is echoing the stupid things a number of people have said. You can find these stupid people all over the internet. Even in Congress where one Black member said she is a freed slave. He doesn't belive those things. He is trying to make a point which obviously you choose not to understand so you can express your own bias.
wjb1tex | Feb 16, 2013, 09:32 AM EST
He's probably right.
