Sadly, this is the way it has always been. Management makes a mess of things and labor is forced to clean it up. Wall Street, the big Banks and politicians mess up big time and main street (in Ireland as in the U.S.) is stuck with the bill to clean it all up. This is why we have laws and regulations, so that management can be held accountable after the fact if they were not ethical enough to follow the rules in the first place. The News should not have been shut down (bskyb deal cover up,) it should have continued to publish with those responsible individuals going to trial and being replaced from the giant pool (since recession) of ethical, responsible job seekers. Hopefully, when the Parlimentary hearings and trials proceed, the unlawful policy makers will be held accountable and sent to jail no matter how rich or how connected they are. Where is the white knight capitalist to step in, buy the News, save everyones' job, protect the subscribers and make some money? Adam Smith, oft quoted by conservatives and capitalists, wrote that capitalism can only work if capitalists have ethical values and base their transactions on those values. Greed over ethics seems to be a common theme in the world today. What ever happened to the children of the sixties revolution and their outrage at the system - sadly they became the system and traded their ethical outrage for a gated community.
