STEVENSTAR! TO USE A DUBLIN WORKING CLASS VERNACULAR APHORISM: "THAT WAS QUITE 'A WOBBLER [IE FIT/TEMPER TANTRUM ETC) YOU JUST THREW'!" I'M IRISH TOO. I LIVE IN EASTERN IRELAND. I DIDN'T CRITICISE THE BRITISH PROPER. I MERELY POSED AN OUTSTANDING GEPGRAPHICAL POLITICAL CONUNDRUM TO BE PONDERED COMPARATIVE TO THE CHINESE OCCUPATION OF TIBET, A CORRELATION YOU OBVIOUSLY MISSED. READ MY POSTS OVER THE LAST WHILE AND YOU'LL SEE JUST HOW REASONABLE I ACTUALLY AM.

I am delighted that Derry has been awarded the deserved privilege of being the UK’s Culture City for 2013 and hope everyone in the city, resident and visiting, maybe as part of ‘The Gathering’ in Ireland, will enjoy the occasion. But the Dalai Lama as a guest??? Ok, I know he’s great at diplomatic exultations of peace and all that - but does he know how much he is disliked around the world for the high, false life-style he has out of that diplomacy? The students of Belfast’s and Dublin’s Universities used to annually raucously “fight” the Battle of the Boyne from each other’s sides of the banks of the Boyne River every year by flinging flour bags at each other across the River Boyne before going off to the pubs to enjoy each other’s drinking and banter with ne’er a death between them. Forget the Battle of the Boyne… in honour of His Falseship’s visit, perhaps they will congregate again on the banks of the Foyle and jointly pelt the Dalai with bags of flour in a cultural Battle of the Foyle? And then take him for a beer in Derry’s bars. That’s culture that I’m sure the Dalai will enjoy and break his heart laughing over a Derry or Genius pint, even if one is poured over his head.

Does that mean that His Holiness (HH) The XIV Dalai Lama (Tenzin Gyatsu) is an Ulster unionist and loyalist, and a Protestant Buddhist? Does he agree with partition or the Chinese occupation of his country - Tibet? I appreciate he's a spiritual leader sans frontiers, but political injustices are unavoudable.
