Tom Humphries, the Irish journalist at the center of underage sex allegations, is close to death according to the latest newspaper reports.

The Irish Daily Star has claimed that the sports writer is seriously ill in the intensive care unit of Dublin’s St James’s Hospital.

The Irish Times writer was rushed to the hospital 10 days ago after he suffered a heart attack while resident at St Patrick’s psychiatric hospital.

The print edition of the newspaper says that Humphries is in a coma like state and has suffered organ failure. Police sources have told the Star that Humphries is now so ill that they believe he will never answer charges relating to the statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl.

A source told the Star: “He is very, very ill. He is unlikely to survive his present condition but even if he does, he is unlikely ever to be charged because he is so ill.”
