I believe I may have seen this bird, or one like it, on Clew Bay in Co. Mayo on Jan 1 or 2. We were in our apartment, which overlooks Newport Quay and I often watch for birds while there. I spotted a solitary white bird on the shoreline which was too big for a seagull, too small for a swan, and too white and active for the normal herons of the area. It made its way up the shoreline several hundred feet, pecking in the gravel. I could not identify it in our Irish bird book; neither my wife nor I had everseen such a bird there before. - Peter Kissel, Apt. 1, Harbourside, Newport
Sounds like "The Gathering" is having a desired effect! When will Wounded Knee complain about these Africans immigrating to the Emerald Isle?
