Robert F Kennedy Jr has said he doesn't believe that a lone gunman was the only one responsible for the 1963 assassination of his uncle, President John F Kennedy.

Robert F Kennedy Jr and his sister, Rory,  were interviewed by Charlie Rose in front of an audience at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas, where a year of observances begins for the 50th anniversary of JFK's death.

Five years after the president was killed, their father was assassinated in a hotel in Los Angeles while celebrating his win in the California Democratic presidential primary.

According to the Associated Press, Robert F Kennedy Jr said his father  believed the Warren Commission report, which concluded Lee Harvey acted alone in killing the president, was a "shoddy piece of craftsmanship."

"The evidence at this point I think is very, very convincing that it was not a lone gunman," Kennedy told Rose, although he didn’t go on to say what he thinks may have happened.

Rose asked Kennedy if he believed his father, who was the U.S. attorney general at the time of the president's assassination, felt "some sense of guilt because he thought there might have been a link between his very aggressive efforts against organized crime."

Said Kennedy: "I think that’s true. He talked about that. He publicly supported the Warren Commission report but privately he was dismissive of it."

He went on to say that an investigation spearheaded by his father found that phone records of Oswald and nightclub owner Jack Ruby, who killed Oswald two days after the president’s assassination, ‘‘were like an inventory’’ of mafia leaders the government had been investigating.

He said his father, who would later be elected U.S. senator in New York, was "fairly convinced" that others were involved.

Rory Kennedy, a documentary filmmaker, told Rose: "In all of the tragedy and challenge, when you try to make sense of it and understand it, it’s very difficult to fully make sense of it. But I do feel that in everything that I've experienced that has been difficult and that has been hard and that has been loss, that I've gained something in it."

Her brother added: "We were kind of lucky because we lost our members of our family when they were involved in a great endeavor. And that endeavor is to make this country live up to her ideals."

With due respect to the Warren Commission, and the qualified experts and legal Notre Dame expert on here, I was never convinced, I watched every programme and serous report, dismissed the films which can tend to "cut and paste". I was in my 20s at the time. I ruled out LBJ being the culprit, Marilyn Monroe and all that "conspiracy" talk. It seemed that too many coincidences were present NOT to rule out a wider plot to kill JFK, "by peron or perons not key known, i do not doubt the integrity of Warren but bott-covering did not begin on Nov 22,1963 and has not yet, among agencies of Government, whether FBI, CIA or Pentagon.
Oswald had nothing to do with the assassination. The killers of President Kennedy went free. The investigations were frauds designed to mislead the public. Even Blakely the HSCA head now says he believes the CIA misled the committee and the liaison on from the CIA may have been Oswald's handler.
I was 15 when JFK was murdered, and to this day feel that more than Oswald were involved. The head snap to Kennedy's left rear is consistant with a bullet being fired from the stockade fence, atop the grassy knoll. This was the fatal bullet; the neck wound likely came from a shot fired from the Texas School Book Depository, but not necessarily by Oswald. Lee Harvey Oswald WAS a sharpshooter, in the Marines. This is the middle rank, higher than "marksman", but lower than "expert". However, someone else may have been at the 6th floor window. Oswald, when arrested, said, for all to hear, "I didn't shoot the President; I didn't shoot anyone. I'm just a patsy". Two days later, Oswald makes brief eye contact with Jack Ruby, before being fatally shot, on national TV. I believe that he thought he would be shot with a blank. Jack Ruby, following his conviction, gave a brief, but intrigueing interview. He said that the world would never know the true facts, about the assassination. The people who put him in the position he was now in would never let the truth come out, regarding his role. As he walked off the stage, a final question was asked, "Are these people in a powerful position today?", to which he answered, "Yes"! The year 2038 was initially set for release of ALL items in the National Archives, relating to the JFK assassination. It has since been moved up to 2029. I believe all should be revealed this year! Isn't 50 years enough time to wait?
I am sure M.L.K was an inside Job. I think that J.F.K was supposed to be hit in New York.
How does Bugliosi explain away the fact that several people below the grassy knoll (including a trained military veteran) heard shots go over their head and fact that a crowd of people rushed that area – including a police officer – after the shots?
What is stated in the article is all opinion, speculation and flight of fancy. The world is full of such rubbish and opinions founded on nothing more than a moving gob. Dara ... Please spare us this tabloid rubbish. Surely there must something worthwhile you could report on. Dara to Dara.
i have always believed osland acted alone. i was 20 when it happened. i still do. at least three books have said the same. one by posner, one by mark fuhrman oj policeman and the best one by far is vincent bugliosi's wonderful huge volume about the assassination with much evidencde to support his position. sure, there were probably conspiracies to kill him as is true with any president but not this time. we know lincoln;s was a conspiracy
@CavanAncerstor – “I've been to Dealey Plaza and stood in that infamous window. I am very familiar with firearms. The distance is NOT great, the motorcade was going very slow and the targets going away from the line of fire.” The motorcade was accelerating to go onto the expressway at the time of the shots (also, most marksmen do not dispute that it was a difficult but not impossible shot). I have also been there and the shot that could have been taken with the motorcade coming toward the window (perpendicular to the window) would have been much easier. Also, how to you explain the people in front of the motorcade who reported shots being fired over their heads (including an ex-military man with his family interviewed on live television the day after) as well as the fact that a crowd of people, including a police officer, rushed the grassy knoll immediately after the shots. Admittedly, I have not read Bugliosi’s book (I do have a lot of respect for him) and therefore am not sure how he dismisses these issues.
I only believed Oswald was the assassin until he was shot by Jack Ruby, and I was only 12 at the time.
John Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy. Does anyone really think it's a mere coincidence? And especially that all happened during the time of Hoover.
PhlutiePhan, read the book. Spent 44 years of my life as a investigator in both public law enforcement and corporate security. We can "conspiracy" ourselves from Lindbergh to Kennedy and not all of us will ever be satisfied. I am.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr's opinion about the conspiracy is based upon the similar evidence to his belief in global warming. He is a dolt who relies on rumor and speculation. The Kennedy killing has been examined by several commissions. One headed by G. Robert Blakey a prof of mine at Notre Dame Law School and a former staffer for Robert Kennedy Sr. when he was Attorney General. Blakey further was the architect of the RICO statutes that put so many Mafia types in jail. If anything he would have had a bias in favor of conspiracy but the inquiry found none.
I don't doubt that Oswald was at the window with his rifle and probably fired a shot, even two. When arrested later, he said that he didn't kill anyone. His rifle had a sighting mechanism on it. He had the best view of the death scene. What did he see through that sight that he might have revealed if he had lived? To me, that's the enduring question, and the quick death of Oswald, followed by the death of his mafia-connected assassin Jack Ruby, leaves a gap in our information about JFK's assassination. Unfortunately, the ballistics evidence did not fill that gap, so uncertainty remains.
i too DON'T believe it was just 1 shooter....JFK was shot 2x....first time, was through the throat....that hit the govenor in front of him....and the final came from the FRONT, throwing his head back and to the side. alisa
Quite brave, Kennedys who do not believe and who aspire to high office tend to be very accident prone, usually don't survive long
