Public protest over Irish political prisoners to take place in Brooklyn
Demonstration will call for release of Martin Corey, Gerry McGeough, and Marian Price
A public protest over the imprisonment of Republican political prisoners, Martin Corey, Gerry McGeough and Marian Price, is to take place this coming Sunday in Brooklyn.
The demonstration is being organized by three respective US campaigners, which are lobbying to free the Irish political prisoners.
A public notice about Saturday’s protest states that: “Martin Corey and Marian Price could be imprisoned indefinitely on the basis of secret evidence they are not allowed to see.”
“Gerry McGeough is scheduled to be released in January 2013 but could easily be re-arrested on the same kind of secret evidence.”
A former IRA member, Martin Corey is serving life for the murder of two RUC officers in 1973.
A veteran Republican, Belfast-born Price, 58, was jailed for the IRA bombing of the Old Bailey in London in 1973. In May 2011, Price and three Derry men were charged with encouraging support of the IRA after a dissident Republican rally in Derry on Easter Sunday.
Gerry McGeough was jailed in 2011 for the attempted murder of a part-time soldier in County Tyrone 31 years ago.
Speakers at the event will include Jim Sullivan, President Brooklyn County AOH, Jane Enright, Chairperson National Irish Freedom Committee; Martin Galvin, The Brehon Law Society; Dan Dennehey, NY State AOH Freedom for All Ireland Chairman and Sandy Boyer of Radio Free Eireann.
