President Obama has stated that he expects to see an immigration reform bill introduced in Congress “very soon” after his inauguration in January. He was speaking at a press conference on Wednesday.

“I am very confident we can get immigration reform done,” Obama stated.

Obama revealed that discussions have already begun with key members of the Congress from both houses on how it can be accomplished. There are an estimated 50,000 Irish undocumented in the U.S.

“We need to seize the moment,” said Obama, stating that he is “already seeing signs” that several key  Republicans are taking a new tack on the issue, among them House Speaker John Boehner and Senator John McCain.

Meanwhile, in a similar about face, a coalition of evangelical leaders is also urging President Obama to introduce a bipartisan immigration reform bill within the first three months of his second term.

ABC reports that more than 150 faith leaders sent an open letter to the President and heads of the Senate and House on Tuesday, urging them to support a pathway to citizenship for the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country.

The open letter states “as evangelical leaders, we live every day with the reality that our immigration system doesn’t reflect our commitment to the values of human dignity, family unity and respect for the rule of law that define us as Americans.”

“Initiatives by both parties to advance common sense fixes to our immigration policies have stalled in years past.”

The group is calling for a bipartisan immigration solution that:
•    Respects the God-given dignity of every person
•    Protects the unity of the immediate family
•    Respects the rule of law
•    Guarantees secure national borders
•    Ensures fairness to taxpayers
•    Establishes a path toward legal status and/or citizenship for those who qualify and who wish to become a permanent resident

In concludes: “We urge you to reach across the aisle and work to create a bipartisan solution that reflects our values, creates just and humane immigration laws, and moves us forward together.”

They called on the intervention to take place within the specified time frame as 92 is how many times the Hebrew word for immigrant, “ger,” appears in the Bible.

Commenting on the open letter, Dr. Barrett Duke, Vice President for Public Policy and Research of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, said,

Immigration is not just a Hispanic issue, it’s an Asian issue, a European issue. It’s a Christian issue. It’s a moral issue. That’s why we’ve committed to educating other Christians about the reality of immigration. We don’t need to choose between American security and the dignity of immigrants who are already here.”

Curtiba: Your comment reminds me that the Founding Fathers who established this great nation, wrote the Declaration of Independence, fought the Revolutionary War, wrote and signed the Constitution were all of the European race - including at least 3, if not 4, of the 39 Constution signers who were Irish-born. Our Founding Fathers never intended this country to have open borders through which hundreds of foreigners could enter every day and be received with open arms by loyal, law-abiding, hard working, tax-paying, English-speaking U.S. citizens.
I would be very VERY wary of "evangelicals", smooth talking Cardinals, and assorted other sainted religious leaders, who have SO suddenly seen the light of immigration reform .....when just a few short days ago they were enthusiastically rallying around let-them-self-deport-and-veto-the Dream-Act Romney, and his assorted Republican billionaire friends. Such conversions are to be taken with a truckload of salt. For wolves in clerical clothing are still wolves. God, they must think us stupid!
wtf CRN925, they are dead because their concerns about security was ignored, the quick react team was pulled out in August again the concerns of its commander was ignored. 9-11 #1 in 2001 was a surprise 9-11 #2 in 2012 should have been expected and could have been avoided. It was passed off as a riot because people want the citizens to believe this administration won the war when they killed Osama. Never underestimate your enemy it will always come back to bite you in the arse.
"President Obama expects immigration reform bill will be introduced in late January" Yes, but not for anyone of European descent, I imagine. Especially Western Europeans.
Oh, I guess what he really meant was the first year of his second term. in English that you be year 5 not year one as he promised the first time around. Also he has substantially changed his ideology on immigration. In 2007 he was tough in 2013 he is a wimp. I guess he flipped flopped on a broken promise that he never intended to keep. Wow!
The young have been bribed for their freedom, so now the anti-freedom regime will dictate their agenda.
both parties want reform. what is unique is the way Obama manipulated it for his re-election. pure politics to wait until second term. Obama will get his amnesty in place then tax the heck out of the new citizens. another win-win for Obama.
The problem is all those other items conflict with "respects the rule of law" and "guarantees secure national borders". We have a system that does those two things, but it is not enforced. What these religious morons should really ask for is what they really want - complete and unconditional amnesty leading to citizenship, open borders, and no assimilation required for immigrants.
The tough part: ... * Respects the rule of law - * Guarantees secure national borders - * Ensures fairness to taxpayers ... meaning it gonna cost ya a bunch and you are gonna have to go to jail? ...
crny925-You shouldn't be surprised!Remember Kent State CSN wrote a song about it that began $ Dead in Ohio, that began the turn of the Viet Nam war.You don't think the O.Bama machine would let that happen. They are giddy that Petraeous couldn't keep his zipper up.(this as many of my posts probably won't make it onto IC)
Why isn't there any coverage on the Benghazi coverup in Irish Central? Oh, that's right... because you kiss Obama's plastic Irish ass! Four people are dead and we have no answers 2 months later; but knew all the details of General Petraeus's affairs in 2 days... Disgraceful how biased you are!
