A new survey of Irish American voting intentions in Tuesday’s presidential election has shown a marginal lead for President Obama over his Republican challenger Mitt Romney by 51 per cent to 48 per cent.
The poll was conducted between Monday 29th October and Thursday 1st November by Amárach Research of the readers of IrishCentral – the largest Irish American website.
The findings contrast with the overwhelming support given to President Obama in recent polls in Ireland where he was ahead 94 per cent to 6 per cent. in a Gallup poll and 79 per cent to 5 per cent in an Irish Times poll .
The poll was conducted using an online methodology among IrishCentral’s 1.5 million monthly users. There were just over 1,100 valid responses. There is no absolute demographic reference point from which to build a nationally representative sample of Irish Americans who are eligible to vote, but the substantial size of this poll coupled with the spread by age, gender and region (the poll includes responses from every State in the Union) mean that it can be seen as reflective of the broader Irish American community.
The poll findings indicate:
• President Obama’s lead over his Republican rival is just 3% now with 1% still undecided. . In 2008 Obama led by 57-42 over John McCain when respondents were asked who they had voted for in 2008 .
In three of the four regions (NorthEast; MidWest; West) Obama leads Romney, but in the South Obama trails badly.
• Just over a fifth of our poll (21%) was drawn from the seven key swing states (Colorado; Florida; Iowa; New Hampshire; Ohio; Virginia and Wisconsin). In this subsample the results were Obama with 54% and Romney 46%
• The Irish American Community is evenly split on whether President Obama is delivering on his campaign promises of 2008. Forty nine percent believe that he is not delivering, compared to the 48% feel that he is delivering – although there the 38% who believe that he is “Not Delivering at All” is in stark contrast to the 12% who think he is “Completely Delivering”. This perception is strongly influenced by party preference – with just 6% of those who describe themselves as Republican believing that he has delivered, compared to 86% of Democrats!
Read more Election 2012 news on IrishCentral here
• In terms of party allegiance, 31% of respondents describe themselves as Republican; 46% describe themselves as Democratic; 23% are Independent.
Over half of our respondents (51%) had decided .who they were going to vote for more than a year ago and a further 30% decided between three and nine months ago. Just 17% decided in the last three months. Given the closeness of the overall race, the 2.3% who decided in the last week may have a crucial impact on the outcome of the race. While the number of undecided is low at 1%, 4% of respondents say that they may change their voting choice before polling day (giving a score of 4 or 5 out of 5 on likelihood of changing their voting choice). This is the Group nationally that both campaigns will target in the final hectic few days. "
Commenting on the poll results Niall O’Dowd, publisher of IrishCentral said "This poll is an invaluable snapshot of where Irish Americans are in this election cycle. It shows clearly that like in the national picture the sides are very close. This election will clearly come down to turnout in the swing states where Irish Americans are heavily represented such as in Ohio and Pennsylvania ."
Michael McLoughlin CEO of Amárach Research commented “We are delighted to have undertaken this poll. We have been working with Irish Central to understand and research the Irish Diaspora for several years. These poll findings once again bear out our view that simple stereotypes of the Irish American community (e.g. that they are overwhelmingly Democratic) are not valid. This is a huge ethnic group – with diverse beliefs, views and goals. The Irish Diaspora can contribute substantially to our economic recovery here at home, but will only do only if we on this side of the Atlantic understand their motivations and aspirations”.
Here are some graphs which show the results clearly:

E-K, Keep up the dancing! And my utmost sympathies for your angle bone fusion. I'd be ok with Hillary as Prez. She's a better politician than O and I have been pleasantly surprised with her ability as Secy of State.
EphraimKibbey | Nov 05, 2012, 04:56 PM EST
bonjouryall - Disco WAS great! I met a number of wonderful ladies disco dancing although I'm not sure that the fog machines might not have added to our Greenhouse-Gases. My wife and I still enjoy dancing although my triple ankle bone fusion last Dec. messes up some of our turns now and then. She is very forgiving. MAD magazine forever!!! Obama for four more years! Then Hillary for the next eight. Maybe Bill Richardson after that?

Go Romney! I can't wait until tomorrow when he becomes our next President. It is time to get this failure out of office!

Please, no more Alfred E. Newman look (and act) alikes for president. Two is enough. Future generaions will wonder what we were thinking - along with why disco was so popular!

It's very simple. If you think corporations are people and have the same rights; If you don't mind your president having secret bank accounts in the Cayman's and Switzerland; If you think that 47% of Americans are irresponsible and don't live up to the challenges in their lives and are looking for a free handout; If you think that women are equal to cattle; If you think that Wall Street brokers, insurance companies executives and bankers deserve to have multi million dollar bonuses and a free hand to scfew with the economy; If you think that education and research is a waste of time; If you don't believe that global warming is not a reality; If you want to do away with national parks, Then vote for Romney. If you think that the middle class needs help in Washngton to suvive; If you think that someone needs to police the bankers, stock brokers and insurance companies because they rip of the middle class left and right; If you think that health care is a right and not a privilege for the rich and well of; If you believe that GLBT people need equal rights; If you beleive that women should be able to control their own bodies; If you think that the Preident of the US needs to be knowledgeable about foreign affairs; Then vote for Obama.

Christina the failed democrat now pushes Briebart and the Drudge Report are you serious?? I feel sorry for your lack of judgment and you new found teabagging extremism. Ephraim I look forward to watching Fox Wednesday and Thursday(That's all I can bear) and watching the histrionics from the usual suspects the weeping an gnashing of teeth and the once proud GOP tear itself apart. I wonder what Rove will write on his little white board then!!

I wish some of the Obama name callers on here would spring for a dictionary - you can get one very cheaply. They make themselves look so silly calling Obama names that have nothing to do with his beliefs or policies. Some of them even fall into the trap of calling him names that mean the opposite of each other. As a proud LIBERAL AMERICAN, I get so tired of people who use the label "LIBERAL" as though to be called it were a BAD thing. Liberal - favoring reform or progress toward democracy or personal freedom for the individual. How can anyone calling him/her self an American not be a liberal as that was the basis for founding our nation. To NOT be a liberal is to NOT believe in American's founding principles. A vote for Magical Mitt the Mendacious is a vote for Oligarchy and continuing loss of personal freedom. Do not be deceived by his lies. Voting for him is like spitting in the eye of every patriot who fought for you in the American revolution. A revolution to pry America FREE from the tyranny of government by the few. Stand up for America, individual freedom and the 99% (THAT'S YOU!) and vote for Obama. If Romney wins, America loses.
eiriamach | Nov 04, 2012, 04:42 PM EST
Actually, Smyrian needs to do some research, in the The Legatum Institute’s Prosperity Index, for example. The USA did not even rank among the top 10, while Ireland, which some Americans consider socialist, ranks 10th, with the more socialist European nations ahead of it: "As the race for the White House reaches fever pitch, Legatum Institute’s Prosperity Index reveals that the American Dream is in jeopardy. In an unprecedented fall, America drops to twelfth position in the worldwide prosperity rankings -– with weakening performance across five of the Index’s eight sub-categories." Huff Post's 11/3 article lists the 8 categories as "economy, education, entrepreneurship & opportunity, governance, health, personal freedom, safety & security and social capital." Maybe Romney's vulture capitalism is working out for Smyrian, but not so much for the rest of us -- teachers, fire fighters, data entry clerks, assembly line workers, salespeople, construction workers, the people Obama is committed to....
redhand32 | Nov 04, 2012, 11:30 AM EST
You can always identify a Tea Bagger angry white guy, intellectually challenged in discussing issues, resorting instead to reptilian single word reactions... "liberal"... "socialist"..."communist"... "monkey".... "N.... ""real Americans"..."Founding Fathers"... "Constitution" ... "born in Kenya/Indonesia," etc. They wear their arrogant ignorance spoon fed by Fox "news"/Rush Limbaugh as a Badge of Honor !
Smyrnian | Nov 04, 2012, 08:52 AM EST
Actually Obama is a hugely committed socialist and not a communist but the difference is negligible; puts us on the same path.
staker42 | Nov 04, 2012, 07:53 AM EST
How many of your respondents can actually vote in the the elections I hope none.

For all Obama lovers I invite you to go Greece North Korea Cuba to see your fate and understand where your hero is leading you. What will you when hard working people stop giving and start looking for handouts. What happens to our health system when obamacare is fully implemented and our debt balloons further we are headed toward a third world country being led headlong by the most unqualified president ever............?unverified education qualifications, a community organizer in Chicago someone who never had a real job, two years in the Illinois senate, two years in the US senate. How could so many Americans be so blind.
christinao't | Nov 04, 2012, 01:33 AM EST
It is high time Irish Americans stop following anything with a big "D" in front of it like a flock of sheep! I left the Democratic party years ago as it no longer stands for what I believe in or anything my ancestors would have believed in. Believe me Irish Americans do NOT want to go down that rabbit hole! It's time to stop and think and vote the right way. Drudge report and Breitbart are only some sites where you can find the truth. MSNBC,CNN,New York Times...all bought and paid for only there to sell you lies. Irish Americans are educated people...it's time to vote that way!
cillowen | Nov 03, 2012, 11:32 PM EDT
. Polygamy was reason the Romneys to flee to Mexico now the 1st generation immigrant will lead us to Vouchers Land. Makes sense if one is plain crazy.
SherryKay | Nov 03, 2012, 09:12 PM EDT
So,just goes to show Irish Americans are well informed and are not going to vote for that pair of lying GOP/Tea Party greedy arrogant white collar criminals Bain Capital Vulture Businessman Willard Mittens Romney and hateful big mouth Lying Paul Ryan in 2012! Mitt Romney shipped tens of thousands of jobs overseas and Lying Paul Ryan got rich off of government contracts as they tried to evade the Viet Nam War Draft when Draft Dodger Romney fled to France as well.
hollabackgurl | Nov 03, 2012, 08:42 PM EDT
Anyone who calls President Obama a communist doesn't have the political sophistication of a mollusc and shouldn't be permitted to vote or drive frankly.
shuvonn | Nov 03, 2012, 08:23 PM EDT
How is providing affordable health care communism? Good Lord Jetsnoone that ruthless businessman has millions in secret accounts in countries world wide. Romney sent jobs abroad when he worked for Bain Capital. Romney voted for Obamacare and now opposes it. Romney wants to close FEMA and bring that over to the states, which would be a DISASTER. He wants to close public television, what has Big Bird ever done to Romney? How many kids grew up on Sesame Street? Ryan was the most ardent of critics of the Stimulus package and yet begged for those very funds for his state several times and LIED about it. You wanna talk Gulags? Obama tried to close Guantanamo and did not get the co-operation from congress to do so. You could look up a few things yourself, you clearly need to. All the lies will not change facts that fly in the fact of your clear and obvious bias.
jetsnoone | Nov 03, 2012, 08:01 PM EDT
I'll vote for a ruthless busnissman over a ruthless communist anyday...The ruthless businessman leaves his country with a HIGHER standard of living...a ruthless communists puts it's own people in gulags...You could look it up.

you warm the cockles of my heart mairdemalone, unfortunately you can't warm heartless. Walmart and Romney are traitors, economic vandals and a blight on humanity.
EphraimKibbey | Nov 03, 2012, 06:13 PM EDT
PiperMac52 - You are confused. What you call lies are the truth and what you call facts are lies. Fox and its viewers live in a topsy-turvy world so we who follow the REAL JOURNALISTS understand your delusions. We wish you all the best but must ignore your protestations and carry on in the REAL world.
PiperMac52 | Nov 03, 2012, 05:57 PM EDT
I don't but it. Most Irish Catholics, myself included, that I have contact with are voting Romney. They are fed up with lies, divisiveness, class warfare, record unemployment, substantial loss of household income, higher prices for goods and services which even with the pro-Obama spin of the media can't put a good face on. Then there is Fast & Furious, Benghazi etc. and the ensuing lies a deceit. This President has no record after 4 years to run on.
EphraimKibbey | Nov 03, 2012, 05:35 PM EDT
mairdemalone - Great post! When more and more of our work force was unionizing, the middle class wage kept rising. Since the private sector unions have been dissappearing, the middle class wage has been dropping. Strange, during both times the wealthy got wealthier. Now the wealthy are attacking public sector unions. "A right to work state is a right to work FOR LESS state." "If we do not hang together we will certainly hang separately." Buy made in America!
Parents | Nov 03, 2012, 04:18 PM EDT
Just saw an interview with an ex-nun and her and her friends after much deliberation are voting Obama. He isn't forcing anyone to do anything but making it a free country and everything else is your choice.
mairdemalone | Nov 03, 2012, 03:57 PM EDT
The American working class have short memories and seem to have exchanged their self-respect for serfdom. They, most of them, are willing to buy food and goods made in China and India, they work for minimum wages at places where they don't get any benefits -where Walmart employers insure them! Now just imagine that! A billionaire company like that insures its employees so that if anything happens to them, they don't use a penny. Now to Romney, the HACHET MAN of BAIN. He and his friends got rich cutting jobs in America and sending the plants overseas. So why would any self-respecting American blue collar worker vote for him!? Do I hear you saying that he will bring CHANGE? Nonsense!!!! He and all of the people who are extremely wealthy don't care about the little people. I have to add that I think if Obama gets a second term, he will do what he couldn't do in the first one, get the crooks out of Washington and New York. He will make America beautiful, free, clean and safe! American workers have to stop doing what they are doing, buying cheap food, cheap goods that are imported. Those sales only make the likes of Romney and Walt and all of the rich selfish cowards richer than they already are!!!!!!!!!!
EphraimKibbey | Nov 03, 2012, 02:54 PM EDT
kilgara - What you call NATURAL LAW, may not be considered so by many others now and by the overwhelming majority in the near future. I call your attention to the trailers for the new film on Lincohn which depict a southerner espousing his belief that no man-made law can make equal what "god" made unequal. His position was accepted as "natural law" by many of his contempararies but is rejected by the vast majority of this planet's occupants currently. Please stop trying to put your religious (natural) beliefs over those of us who see them as hogwash! Please wake up to the fact that YOU are the one who has been "brainwashed" into believing things that just are not true.
Parents | Nov 03, 2012, 02:32 PM EDT
How simple is this...there is a majority replubican house so they put the laws through. Mitt Romney is a ruthless, greedy businessman who has accests offshore and moves jobs to China. It is a fact. He is hiding all his tax returns except the two that were set ups, the others are well hidden however he still only pays 14% tax althoumigh he makes 20 million a yr. He knows nothing about politics, he cares nothing about the "little" people. He and his multimillionaire friends who have donated millions and millions to his campaign want to protect their money and their power.
shuvonn | Nov 03, 2012, 02:22 PM EDT
so people who vote for Obama are dumb Kilgara? Yet you cannot refute one fact posted that proves the lies that have been being told by Republicans....
kilgara | Nov 03, 2012, 02:03 PM EDT
If Obama is re-elected it is going to be because the average American is much dumber now than in past generations. Despite the increases in education and technology people have been brainwashed by an ultra-liberal media into seeing things that are against natural law and immoral as being right and just, such as gay marriage and the abomination of abortion. Past generations, though markedly less "educated" knew enough to make these degeneracys strictly taboo. We have certainly lost our way and many millions will pay with the loss of their immortal souls.
shuvonn | Nov 03, 2012, 02:03 PM EDT
The sad thing is that the lies just keep coming, Ryan took stimulus money three times and yet LIED about it, while being one of the most vocal critics of it. Romney was caught on tape *encouraging* business owners to tell their workers who to vote for, SO much the opposite of what democracy is about. Romney voted for Obamacare and the people who are actually benefiting from it as in no more denial of coverage for a pre-existing condition, children on the family policy until 26, no caps on when a company can cut you off, are the ones who are complaining about Obamacare while benefiting from it. I find the ones that complain the loudest are those who already have coverage so I hope it keeps fine foe ya. Romney was again caught on tape about the 47% of whom many are retired people and veterans who are NOT looking for handouts as he inferred, I want a president for EVERYONE not just thmt 53% Romney wants to vote for him.... jetsnoone, I do not agree with abortion, but I have to say it is not my place to impose that belief onto others, and if a woman is on the pill its the same principle to the RC church, so I hope it keeps fine for ya....
jetsnoone | Nov 03, 2012, 01:56 PM EDT
phinsman 50% of aborted babies are girls.....I've heard enough about your rights what about their rights?
EphraimKibbey | Nov 03, 2012, 01:48 PM EDT
SHUVONN - Thanks for standing up for the truth! I have this mental picture of you standing high on a rock swinging the sword of truth this way and that as the dragons of darkness snap at you from all sides. The truth is all that we have standing between America and EVIL.
EphraimKibbey | Nov 03, 2012, 01:44 PM EDT
Thanks for the insight into the hearts and minds of the descendents of the Irish in America. They seem to be between the population here in Ohio and the population of the US at large. I think that the population at large would be more for Obama if the red states had been exposed to reality more by nationwide campaigning. Sadly, the people in those states have been left to the GOP myth mongers. It amazes me that so many of the GOP commenters on IC have not bothered to check the facts before posting idiotic, fanatical drivel. Fox news has had a profound effect on the IQ of the GOP. I wonder how long before they start demanding that public schools teach that the world is flat. GO OBAMA, FOUR MORE YEARS! FORWARD TO PROSPERITY NOT BACK TO BUSH! (More private sector jobs created by BIG GOVERNMENT under Obama in FOUR years without any help from the GOP than Bush created in EIGHT years!!! Just think how the economy would be humming if the 2010 elections had gone the other way.)
shuvonn | Nov 03, 2012, 01:40 PM EDT
Ian Paisley? SERIOUSLY..... what a joke that you mention him, he is a racist, of the lowest order, hardly worth a mention.
Seanmor | Nov 03, 2012, 01:09 PM EDT
The pole in Ireland that shows 94% in favor of Obama appears NOT to include the part of that country north of the artificial Partition. Up in the Wee Six there are many, perhaps the majority, who do NOT agree with Obama's strong support for abortion and same-sex unions, especially among staunch Protestants like Ian Paisley and his namesake son.
Nicomax | Nov 03, 2012, 01:05 PM EDT
It would not surprise me if this tally is not what we will see nationally on Tuesday- maybe even a bit closer. It appears "Sandy" made enough of a difference to stem Romney's surge.
phinsman | Nov 03, 2012, 12:58 PM EDT
I am an Irish American and am super liberal and definitely will vote for Barack Obama. It is a woman's right to choose when she is ready to be a parent. Obama truly supports the middle and lower class, where as Mitt Romney supports only the upper class.
shuvonn | Nov 03, 2012, 12:57 PM EDT
Gerry clearly you wish to project your values onto others, something you do not care to have done to you. Yes, people need to work so why would you vote for Romney when he bought companies, stripped them of their assets and sent the jobs abroad? And you want to talk the 47% ? DO you KNOW who they are? Retired people, veterans, and they have a right to expect social security and to be looked after on some level after a life time of hard work and sacrifice and that is NOT expecting to be looked after by YOU or anyone. I am far from stupid and I will not be talked down to by the bible thumping likes of you who wishes to impose YOUR values onto others. When YOU have to carry a child, then YOU can have the right to say what happens, personal choice should remain as I will not impose MY values onto others. I do not care whether you buy that or not, that is MY opinion and in a democracy one has the right to that. Drought has brought the price of food up, GREED and unrest in the ME, is what has brought the price of fuel up and not just one aspect as you claim. But you will NOT call me stupid simply because I disagree with you, how very ROMNEY like of you, good luck IF Romney ever gets elected but I can guarantee you, he will NEVER get in.....
jetsnoone | Nov 03, 2012, 12:47 PM EDT
Obama means destruction of the white middle class so that they can share with those less fortunate than they are... Obama means abortion including late term abortion...Obama means making Catholic institutions paying for the abortions that their employee might want (talk about blood money)...Obama means hanging up the phone when our Navy Seals call for backup...Obama is a dirt bay, vote against him and send him on a long, long vacation to Hawaii....
lokionline | Nov 03, 2012, 12:40 PM EDT
It is somewhat reassuring to find that the Irish Central audience closely resembles the US as a whole.
GerryMaine | Nov 03, 2012, 12:12 PM EDT
shuvonn.. I think you, like Obama, understand nothing about economics and about human nature. People need to work. It's good for their soul and it's good for society. People who don't work don't pay taxes yet they demand services from the government which takes money directly via taxes, by borrowing from the future or by diluting the value of the national currency ("Quantitative Easing")which makes the value of all of our money less. The latter makes food and fuel more expensive. This makes all of us poorer. If you're so stupid that you don't understand that, then you're hopeless. Did pro-abortion people ever ask the baby how they feel about being killed in the safety of their mother's womb? When we kill a baby outside of the womb it's murder, inside the womb it's the mother's choice. I don't buy that. Sorry. Pregnancy is inconvenient to the mother who doesn't want the baby. There are a lot of inconveniences in our lives but none of them justify killing an innocent baby.
bonjouryall | Nov 03, 2012, 12:08 PM EDT
Show you're not a bigot by voting for Romney. Obama represents a secretive past, failed policies, massive debt for our next generation, and a divisive presidency. I believe the Demos can still force taxes on the rich through the congressional process. Incidentally, I support more taxes on the rich and an expanded but fiscally responsible health care system, neither of which Obama has delivered.
shuvonn | Nov 03, 2012, 12:05 PM EDT
GerryMaine, I would expect nothing less from a bible thumping holier than thou ramming your opinions down the throats of others while complaining that's being done to you. If a woman takes the birth control pill, the church sees that as an abortion since in their eyes life begins at conception. But hypocrisy abounds. I notice that you did not answer the question I asked about how the government is forcing poverty on the people, now why is that Gerry? If you want to talk cover up Junglejim Republicans blocked 300 million for security and maintenance on embassies world wide prior to Ben Ghazi can be so inconvenient. You may want to compare Obama to Hitler, but that's just a little over the top but typical of bias. North Korea and Hitler, what a joke and you want to call Democrats biased and fanatical? P.S. I did what I was told to prepare for Sandy, I gassed up, I prepared coolers, I filled my refigerator,I even lost water since I have a well, but I did NOT rely on the government to help me. Ain't hypocrisy grand?? You give out that the government has too much power and now you are complaining about them NOT doing enough after Sandy, take a look at what Mitt wants to do :-) The ignorance is amazing and almost funny, ALMOST
junglejim26 | Nov 03, 2012, 11:47 AM EDT
Note, on my posting; Lets also talk about this... We saw how the media dumped on George W. Bush during Katrina. Not so with President Obama with Sandy. Then there’s the Benghazi story, or is it the non-story of this very young century? Talk about a cover-up happening right before our eyes. The media are the equivalent of Pravda, only publishing stories that support the government. “This is far more than Watergate, and the press in this case is the equivalent of Woodward and Bernstein helping Nixon cover up Watergate.” Four Americans dead while Hitler watched, he then went to bed and headed to Vegas in the morning... Funny thing, No one died during Watergate! Where is your report on this??? Oh, you were on your knees for Obamie...
GerryMaine | Nov 03, 2012, 11:35 AM EDT
shuvonn, I would expect nothing less from an Obama supporter than your response to my posting. I will never ever vote for a Democrat again in my lifetime. The Democratic Party has always been the party of slavery. Nothing has changed except the "Masters". I prefer freedom every day of the week.
shuvonn | Nov 03, 2012, 11:32 AM EDT
SO you think you are not the *average irish person* because you know all about it Eamonn? Funny that you mention vice presidents, Ryan complained about stimulus package and lied when he was presented with the fact he had asked for funds 3 times from that very stimulus package. Romney passed Obamacare in Mass, and now is supposedly against it. He flip flops and lies when he claims he was bipartisan when he voted 800 times against democratic bills while in Mass. He wants to hand over FEMA to the states which would be a disaster especially in the light of Sandy. He wants to stop funding public television, where many a child learned so much from Big Bird. He wants to end funding for womens healthcare, and end Obamacare (something he voted FOR in Mass)Republicans voted against the lilly ledbetter act for equal pay for women, all the lies and flip flops are simply unacceptable to this woman. I did like Scott Brown as being somewhat bipartisan but upon studying this actual voting record, his ads are LIES. You clearly know very little and are biased yourself Eamonn, you just cannot or will not see that..
junglejim26 | Nov 03, 2012, 11:29 AM EDT
Hey Kate, As an American of Irish decent and a register Democrat and knowing about 300 others who are also Democrat's, who are not voting for the love of your life. So let me get this straight Gerry in your world only Democrats are fanatics? How very unbiased of you Good luck to you voting for Romney, I generally opposed abortion but I do not think I have the right to deny that to others. I am for same sex marriage, since we do not choose whom to love and they exist and have the same rights as all of us when it comes to marriage. And please DO enlighten us as to how the government forced poverty on a free people? You are doing what you accuse others by trying to enforce YOUR standards and beliefs onto others, and as for comparing the US to North Korea under Obama? A little bit of a stretch seriously.... :-)

The average Irish person living in Ireland has no idea whatsoever about USA politics. They simply swallow and regurgitate - as their "own" opinion - the rubbish they hear from the Obama-worshipping, Republican-hating Irish media. Apart from its grotesque bias, the Irish media actually knows very little about USA politics - it just knows to say "Obama is the best", and they laugh at and mock anybody who says anything else. Much the same as The Biden Buffoon, as he so ably demonstrated in the vice-presidential laugh-in. Éamonn, Dublin.

Good Lord Katie, don't tell me you are a birther too?

Considering that most conservative Irish Americans would have fled your very liberal, Democrat website long ago, I think the poll is very good news for Romney. Your poll is heavily weighted with Democrats. Typical for Obama fanatics. Our household is voting for Romney. We're opposed to abortion, we're opposed to same sex marriage, and we're opposed to government forced poverty on a free people. Obama is the anti-thesis of the American spirit. He's exactly what immigrants to America fled from whence they came. If I wanted to live in a country like North Korea what Obama imagines is the ideal, I'd simply go there.

Pray that Nobama loses or we're gone as a wonderful nation. If he wins look for him to change 2 terms to lifetime, the word "president" to "dictator" and we'll be a another country under socialism or the likes of the Hitler regime. Pray God that this doesn't happen. He is inept, prejudice against Catholics and a true Muslim (he has even said so himself).

So you re saying that the Irish are as dumb as the general population

Go Away Mitt, He voted for Obamacare in Mass before he was against it, he was THE most partisan governor in the state of Mass EVER ( over 800 votes against bipartisan issues in Mass) As for the socialists? What a JOKE.... He wants to end federal funding for FEMA, and pass it over to the states, that would have worked SO well for Sandy, NOT! End funding for Family Planning, and end coverage for birth control, vote out Roe V Wade to name a few. Republicans voted AGAINST equal pay for women, and have not come out and said what they are actually going to do and it's a bit late in the season for flip flops....

Romney deserves to lose. He has little integrity. He and his cohorts will say anything that they believe will garner more votes, regardless of the falsity of their statements.Their latest lies in Ohio about the claim that GM and Chrysler were shipping jobs overseas backfired on them. The CEOs of these companies repudiated the Republican ads as being false. And the Republicans continue to repeat their false claim that Obama Care is cutting 700 million dollars from Medicare, despite being called out on this lie several times by journalists, with no axe to grind. Romney's credibility is further undermined by his ever changing positions on the issues. His extreme conservative posturing during the Republican primaries has now mellowed somewhat to make him more a centrist. He went from being a saber rattler on Iran to agreeing with the President on the major foreign policy issues at their last debate. The American people deserve someone better than a chameleon for President.

I'd like to know what percentage of respondents were female. Given the huge gender gap in your results (60 percent of Repub. voters were male while 40 percent of Repub. voters were female?), if there were more males than females in your poll, the results are skewed. Women vote in higher numbers than men in all US elections.
