Michaela Harte’s uncle-in-law has offered a prayer for the murder victim and her grieving husband John McAreavey at Knock Shrine.
Bishop of Dromore John McAreavey, uncle of Michaela’s husband, spoke of his heartache as he dedicated a prayer to the family of Michaela, killed on honeymoon in Mauritius last January.
Bishop McAreavey spoke at the Mayo shrine as the prosecutions key witness prepared to address a pre-murder trial on the holiday island.
The Irish Independent reports that the Bishop told pilgrims to the Knock basilica: “These prayers are for my nephew John, still living with the terrible tragedy of his wife’s death.”
After administering Holy Communion to pilgrims, Bishop McAreavey added: “I am also praying for Michaela’s parents Mickey Harte and his wife Marion.”
Meanwhile the star witness is to appear in court in Mauritius on Monday at the preliminary hearing into the murder of 27-year-old Michaela Harte.
Hotel cleaner Raj Theekoy was originally due in court last Thursday but delays in the trial forced the postponement of his evidence until Monday.

Theekoy had originally been charged with conspiracy to murder because he had heard screams at the Legends hotel but didn’t run for help.
Charges were dropped after Theekoy agreed to give evidence against accused co-workers Avinash Treebhowon (30) and Sandip Moneea (41) who both deny the charge of murder.
The preliminary inquiry was delayed after defence lawyers attempted to have magistrate Sheila Bonomally removed from hearing the case.
The judge rejected a motion that the men couldn’t get a fair trial because she granted bail to one of the accused and not the other.
The preliminary inquiry, now into a second week, will decide if there is enough evidence to send the accused men forward for trial for murder.
