“I look forward to seeing you again on completion of this leave and will remember you in my prayers - and hope that you will continue to remember me in yours.”

His speech was met by “rapturous applause” in both churches.

A spokesperson for Pomeroy Pastoral Council Finance Committee released a statement in support of the priest.

They said, “During the next few months we hope that the Christian spirit of forgiveness, healing and reconciliation will permeate through the parish so that we learn to move on from this sad event and become a more united parish.”

C'mon guys! He's entitled to a fair trial before we hang him. Though destruction of USB stick and failure of CCTV system a tad suspicious, and unlikely to assist him in acquital. I trust An Serbhíse Poílíní na Tuarscirt Eireann (SPTE)/Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are investigating impartially. Let justice prevail.
You never thought he would ever 'fess up did you? These day's I wouldn't put anything past any of them. Good on the parishoners, if others had done the same thing when innocent children had been abused the church would have learned their lesson long ago.
@Deanjackson - I have to be honest and say that when this story broke my immediate reaction was "set-up" but that was before I became aware of the back story. 1) The fact that he cleared out of the room for a good 20minutes after the images had been displayed. 2) The fact that when he came back he continued with the meeting, and made no reference to what had happened, or issued no apology. 3) The fact that during that meeting he suggested to the young communicants present that they should donate some of their communion money to the church. 4) The fact that there were up to four computers stored in the vestery, yet only the one used for the presentation was missing. 5) The fact that the CCTV around the church only failed to record after the incident, and I believe it was a relatively new system. No, these are not the actions of a man that was framed, but rather those of a man who was caught out because of a lack of understanding of how ICT works. His comments to me smack of his training in Mental Reservation being brought to bear!!
too much Jethart Justice about, hang first, try later.
@DeanJackson et al - Darn right this was an inside job and the prepatrator has just been "shamed" out of the Parish!! This is a Priest who was, at best, tolerated by 50% of the parish, and loathed by the other 50%. His primary interest and motivation was getting more money into parish bank accounts that he controlled. He even tried to force the local Kindergarten to pay for use of church property and it was only because so many parents threatened to remove their children that he backed down. He went out of his way to pick fights with anyone who disagreed with his stewardship of the Parish, and in his wake he has left that parish riven with discord, disunity and a split that will take a long time to heal, PROVIDED of course that Cardinal Brady does not try to parachute him back in again. He is damaged goods in parish ministry and his future probably lies in flying a desk in some administrative centre, where he is best served to be!!
We can always count on Portia777! Never lets us down!
No need to find a conspiracy here! Some years ago, I was directed to swap offices with the new head of my department, who taught in my field but also had a Christian ministry degree. It was a tiresome move with not much help carrying things to another building and up the stairs during the busiest week of the semester. So I suggested to him that we leave our computer printers in place and just move our computers and files and personal stuff. He agreed, since both printers were identical models and would need to be hooked up again anyway. One day when I was all settled in to my new office, I tried to print a letter. The printer coughed and shook for a few moments, and then it printed out-- not my file-- but several pages that had been stored in its memory. One after another, photos of scantily clad, beautiful young women rolled out of the printer I had inherited from the bible college grad. So I do not leap to any conclusions about what happened that day at Fr McVeigh's First Communion instruction.
Sure sounds like a setup, but who wants to take the chance. Hope the RCC helps him and just does not discard him.
He proved his guilt by destroying the USB stick.
This crude and cruel attack on man of God and his parishioners is no joke.
