If there's no mandatory reporting in confessional, we as catholics will be no better off, it's a worldwide problem.

This could have been stopped by the Gardai and public officials long ago, if they'd wanted to. They didn't. So they're as responsible as anyone else. In the US, if you're part of a crime where someone gets assaulted or killed, you're just as responsible for the murder as the one who actually committed it. Why doesn't that extend to child abuse, which is just as heinous?

This whole pedophile crime spree that has been going on for, (how long?) is making me feel very ill. Between priests, former priests, and other sex predators, Ireland's children have been treated like game. I, applaud this young man, Derek for having what it takes to stand up for all child victims. It is way past time for these criminal pedophiles to be treated like the violent criminals that they are. Lock them up, now!

In 2002, why was he just given a fine and placed on the sex offenders list? That's not justice for the victim!
