i feel that its completly unfair & unconstitutional. Its as bad as racial profiling. The Irishh Travelers are just like everyone else~ there are good ones & bad ones just like everything else in the world. But shame on anyone who is not going to like or trust someone just because of their heritage.

I think you people need to look at the facts about these people. I'm sure there are some who don't scam but I live in the town where these people reside in huge houses. They scammed the builder of my house out of a huge amount of money which caused him to go bankrupt.
They had to lock cases in the Walmart near where they live as they would steal the merchandise. They scam old people by keeping them occupied outside the house while one of them goes in and steals. They were caught doing this because a next door neighbor happened to see one entering the house and the police were called and caught them in the act.
They dress their little girls 2 and up like little hookers.
Come to South Carolina and see what they are up to.
Just because they originated in Ireland doesn't mean they are decent people.

The same people who are lambasting the American travelers are the same people who castigate liberals, makes one wonder about their bigotry. I met many a fine traveler when I lived in Ireland Paddy "the pecker"Dunne,The Furey brothers the wards and so on.Sat around their campfires listening to their stories and singing their songs.

Irishphotograph, what in the name of g... are you on about," travellers hold the irish to ransom " this story is about America. Here in Ireland we know who to trust in the travelling community, good and bad in all people. These travellers did not arrive by the boatload from Ireland. They are American just like every other so called American, who are descendants from every nationality in the world. This is what irishcentral does best, this is not an irish site, it comes all the way from America.

They are Americans, and should be addressed as such, whom as somebody wrote live in palatial residences in the South.
Reference to their Irish heritage is a possible litigation opportunity if the present line of scams become too well known and ...

A scam merchant is a scam merchant regardless of whether it's a tinker or Murdoch. They are both crafted out of the same scam cloth. Position in society does not justify preying on private citizens.one scam is a mirror image of another,God I'm tired having to spell out the obvious.

@seanomelbourne: and just what, pray tell, does Fox/Gop network.Murdoch have to do with these criminals? Using your logic, its fine to steal from the poor and elderly because you don't like Fox/Gop? Stealing is fine because others may be doing it? What's your point? More importantly, how does anything Murdoch/Fox/GOP/Chaney/Obama/Clinton/Bush is doing or may have done have ANYTHING to do with a bunch of slimeballs who are preying on the elderly or naive?

More scare tactics and bigotry from the Fox/GOP network.Murdoch had a great scam going in london snooping on private citizens, his editor will probably go to jail and Murdoch had to set aside about $60 million to settle claims. Murdoch king of the scam merchants. Bet you don't hear in on the Fox/GOP network.

I was a Registered Nurse for over 30 years and the only gypsies we had problems with were Hungarian's. Their queen would get sick and the entire caravan would camp out in the hall ways of the Hospital as cloce to her room as they could. Every group in the world has people like this. They want money but don't want to work. The drive way scam goes like this: They spray the drive way in black. Sort of like a fast paint job. Oh well. I hope people take heed and kick them out.

Just another blight on the name of Irishmen and women! Well-done to the police and law-abiding people in Oxford, Ohio. These parasites prey on the weak, the defenceless and the elderly. They are immunue to decency and honour, They are despised, not because they are travellers, or Irish, as some people like to whinge, but because they are thieving dregs of humanity and are shameless, avaricious and without moral values. Bad luck to them and all belonging to them. DO NOT HIRE THEM - CALL THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY (OR TURN THE DOG ON THEM). I am Irish and I have no problem in disowning these lowlife thieves; wouldn't any decent person detest their meanness and disgusting behaviour! And their types are not unknown at home in Ireland either! As for references- don't be so foolish! Where would a criminal get a reference! There is one spoken response that they deserve and that is 'F**k Off!)

This gang of thieves may be of Irish ancestory, but they've lived here for generations. Far from being "poor, jobless, downtrodden individuals", many of them live in mansions located in private, gated communities mainly in North Carolina. I have no clue what the police or Fox news would have to gain by making this up. As a retired police officer from Southern New Jersey, I've witnessed first-hand the financial havoc these crooks have wrought on the elderly and REAL poor, who trustingly hired them to improve their properties at what they thought was a fair price. I consider this article to be an honest attempt to inform those who may fall victim to these thieves, and as such has little to do with Wall Street, the GOP, and Healthcare Reform.

There are much bigger scams afoot in the USA than the potential arrival of gangs of Irish Travelers in Oxford, Ohio. A long list like Paul Ryan's budget proposals, the GOP myth of Ronald Reagan's trickle down economics, Trump and a litany of other GOP craziess bid for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012, Wall Street and the bailed-out fraudulent banks, daily misinformation and lies spewed by Fox News, the myths of real Finance and Healthcare reform, the blood money in trillions wasted in the name of patriotism on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan which really benefit the secret Dick Cheney-like contractors and corporations given free rein in those war zones, the bottomless money-pit called the USA Military, etc., etc.

I have no experience with this group, good or bad, but I wish people would quit tell folks "to get a real job like the rest of us." You should be thankful for the blessing of having a job and more tolerant of those who (through no fault of their own) have lost their jobs to outsourcing and the "Great Recession." There are five applicants for every job offering in the U.S. right now. Meanwhile companies have record profits and Wall Street is close to recovering all it lost in 2008. American industry is not creating the jobs that the "trickle-downers" keep promising will result from giving them and their rich investers more and more tax breaks. Take away a hard working person's livelihood, their house and their hope for a better life for their children and then kick them for not getting a job. What true evil!

Knackers are notorious for fighting, intimidating the eldery and stealing. Why anyone would defend them or their dysfunctional culture is beyond belief.........The Irish are unhappy because the Americans have the audacity to tel the truth and ignore the P.C. crap.....In Ireland you have 2 options in voicing your opinion about knackers: 1) Keep silent...2) Be a hypocrite and say nice things about them.....Believe me this shower of thieves are dangerous and hopefully the Americans will not make any excuses for their criminal behaviour and refuse to kiss their arses like the timid Irish!

In America they are called "The Williams Families." They come around to homes saying they just did a paving job and they have extra tar so for a reduced price I can do your driveway. The police send out warnings every spring but dopey people still get scammed. When the first rain comes they cry as they watch the so called tar run down the driveway. Ask for there license and see how fast they run away. GraydonWilson saying the Police and Fox are lying makes me wonder if you might be one of the Willams familly?
