Police arrest one suspect after man was decapitated, thrown under Dublin bus
Unidentified victim was pushed under the front wheel of a bus in Dublin’s city center during rush hour
A man was decapitated by a Dublin bus in the city center on Thursday night. Police have arrested one man, and are searching for a second in connection to the incident.
The deceased man was pushed under the wheels of the bus on the corner of Nassau Street and Dawson Street, by Trinity College.
One of the suspects, a 29-year-old man, is being held and questioned at Pearse Street Garda Station, according to RTE.
The incident was witnessed by commuters and shoppers in the busy area of Dublin during rush hour, at 5.45pm, on Thursday.
It is believed that the victim, who was in his late 20s, was pushed under the, number 145, bus. He died instantly from his injuries. According to reports the front wheel of the bus crushed his head.
A witness told a local newspaper, the Irish Sun “There was an altercation and the man ended up in front of an oncoming bus. Obviously it’s dark and wet and the driver couldn’t do anything. There was a lot of screaming.”
A taxi driver covered the man’s remains with a blanket. The police and ambulances were on the scene almost immediately but there was nothing they could do. Police had to remove members of the public who were taking photographs at the scene.
Another witness said “It was all very quick. The scene was terrible, very sad. It was a terrible scene.”
The police are having difficulties identifying the man as he was not carrying identification.
The closed-circuit television, fitted on the bus, will be used to help in the investigation. A Dublin Bus inspector is assisting the police with their investigations. They are also carrying out their own investigation into the incident.
The bus driver, who was treated for shock, and other witnesses gave statements to the police.
