It's official! Irish humor is global! The offbeat Irish cartoon brothers Podge and Rodge have just won an international marketing award for ad agency Dialogue Marketing.

"Podge and Rodge on a PC" shows Ireland’s most famous dysfunctional farming siblings promoting Microsoft's Vista to Irish audiences.

Podge (Pádraig Judas O'Leprosy) and Rodge (Rodraig Spartacus O'Leprosy) are the two central characters on “The Podge and Rodge Show,” an Irish adult comedy television chat show starring two puppets.

The characters were created and are performed by Ciaran Morrison and Mick O'Hara, who also created and perform the characters of Zig and Zag.

The three-minute ad was created by Dialogue to launch Microsoft’s new Vista operating system to the Irish market.

The ad on You Tube, has had over 70,000 views.

It begins with the mischievous brothers at their fictional home - Ballydung Manor, set in the fictional village of Ballydung in County Ring.

The raunchy brothers are attempting to “surf” the Internet when Rodge suggests they log in to “Dirty Dirty Ladies.com”

What feels like 100 hours and several pints later, the dirty duo have only managed to download the head of a sexy lady. Not impressed - “this is shite” says Podge - they decide to invest in a Microsoft Vista operating system and finally they get what they want, and lots more!

The sidesplitting ad won the Best Viral Marketing Campaign Award at the Digital Media Awards as well as Best IT and Best Responsive Digital in the An Post Direct Marketing Awards.

Creative director of Dialogue, Des Columb, said, ‘‘What’s really gratifying about this campaign is how well it has traveled.

‘‘We knew that local technoheads would get Podge and Rodge, but to see that an international awards jury share Ireland’s appreciation for their level of depravity really is heart-warming - it’s good to know we’re not alone!”

Clare Dillon of Microsoft Ireland said the company wanted to reach users who were "outside the reach of traditional marketing techniques.”
