WoundedKnee: Your point is well taken. Nowadays the powers-that-be in the Southern Irish state officially regard recent immigrants, including Arabs, Indians and Africans, as the "New Irish", while those of us in the U.S. who feel atrongly attached to All of Ireland have been called "missinformed malcontents" "sentemental fools" and worse, but they still want heaps of our dollars.

some of ye sound like complete begrudgers and moaners!!! For some people its simply an opportunity to go home and visit family and friends and have something fun going on while there. get over yerselves about tourist dollars - some tourists spend very little. its those of us with family there are probably spending more taking family out to dinner, shopping for presents for friends where we live. its people with lousy attitudes and moaners like some of ye we arent bothered about seeing here or there - miserable attitudes to something fun going on! pathetic

This Gathering is a pretty lame effort by the Irish to shake down people of Irish ancestry for their tourist dollars and pounds and pesos. It's totally spurious. Despite all the nauseating Blarney, Irish-Americans, Irish-Australians, Irish-Argentines etc. will still have to stand in line at Dublin Airport while Latvians, Lithuanians, Pakistanis and Poles breeze serenely by. I certainly will avoid traveling to Ireland next year, lest my visit be construed as support for this scam.

I suppose we will have this gathering b/s stuffed down our necks by I.C. every chance they get and would make headlines out of a envelope opening

Why not a gathering of Ryans in Tipperary, with the new US vice president?
