It's been a bumpy first week as Mitt Romney's Vice President pick for Paul Ryan. Having just revealed that Rage Against the Machine is his favorite band, Ryan found himself the target of a scalding new op-ed by band member Tom Morello.

Published Thursday night on Rolling Stone's website, according to the Huffington Post, Morello blasts Ryan as "the embodiment of the machine our music rages against."

Morello then compared Ryan's appreciation of his band to Charles Manson's love for The Beatles and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's passion for Bruce Springsteen.

But more than anything else, Morello blasted what he called Ryan's "guiding vision of shifting revenue more radically to the one percent."

Ryan himself has plenty of "rage" Morello observed, but it's "a rage against women, a rage against immigrants, a rage against workers, a rage against gays, a rage against the poor, a rage against the environment."

Morello, alongside actor Mark Ruffalo and Coldplay singer Chris Martin, has advocated for the so-called 'Robin Hood Tax' which would place a small levy on all financial transactions. That money would then be used to assist citizens who suffered at the hands of the recession.

Other musicians are also making their dictate for the Romney - Ryan ticket apparent. This week The Silversun Pickups sent the Romney campaign a strongly worded cease-and-desist letter when they discovered the campaign had played their song 'Panic Switch' at a public event. In response, the campaign reportedly said the song would not be used again.

"We don't like people going behind our backs, using our music without asking, and we don't like the Romney campaign," the band's frontman Brian Aubert wrote. "We're nice, approachable people. We won't bite. Unless you're Mitt Romney!"

Obnce again, we have entertainers who should stick to entertaining and keep their misguided, under or non-researched opinions to themselves. NO ONE in the UNited States is anti-immigrant. We are anti-ILLEGAL immigrant. I don't find Morello's rant to be scathing, I find it to be based on left wing controlled media propaganda and therefore misguided. There is no "1%" vs. the "99%" outside of the Sol Alinsky inspired communists looking to create chaos and unrest in this country. Morello should do less time commenting and more time reading and researching what is actually behind the Wall Street movement.
@Ephraim, what a load, founding fathers were terrified of tyrannical government. They were afraid of non Americans attaining the presidency that they included it in the Constitution. They also had citizenship requirements for legislatures. The seanos, eirias, mac31s do not disgust me for they actually believe their cause, you are just a paid propagandist, and not a good one at that, PS. when you wrote about your trip to Ireland you reinforced the American stereotype that is so disliked, very condescending.
@irishpjk - Thank you for your service! My mom's folks include a guy named John Howland who came over hanging on to one of the Mayflower's lines half drowned. He was an indentured servant of the Governer and married his daughter. Both Bill Clinton and George Bush are also decended from him. My Dad's line includes a widow and her three sons escaping the famine in Ireland. All of my ancestor immigrants would have asked: What's a green card. There is this little statue of a lady in the harbor of New York City which was given to this nation back when it still had a heart. Part of its inscription reads: Give us your tired, your poor, your teeming masses yearning to be FREE... There is nothing on it about green cards or quotas or immigration laws. Our founding fathers believed that ALL men were created equal. Notice that is not ALL Americans, or ALL Europeans, or ALL college educated, or ALL green card holders. Our national sin is that we MADE you stand in line and MADE you get a green card and that we have immigration laws at all. Our founding fathers are rolling in their graves at how far we have deviated from their beliefs. GOP Nativist philosophy: I got mine now I'll make laws so you can't get yours. Immigrants are, and have always been, the very life blood of this country. Without their vitality, we will curl up and die.
They fail to find stupid democrats Tom as they do not exist
McNamare31. "Those were FOX exit polls...need I say more?" Well indeed you should my friend. Only FOX has the interest and the courage to expose these idiots for what they are. Those were real questions and real answers by real people. MSMBC, CNN will not touch the subject of stupidity among Democrat voters.
Saw the kinks in Lowell coliseum great show, Floyd all excellent musicians, If you never heard of the ramones you probably won't like them, my guess is that steely dan royal scam would be a meeting place in the middle. As for Ephraim being frsh air, c'mon, he's a hack, bought and paid for, you should be able to pick up on that.
Nice to see this Communist Site give a boost to an Irish American. I guess if Ryan was Black, then you'd be nice to him. No prejudice in this site.
Do the GOP candidates read ANY lyrics of the musicians they like? 1. Chris Christie - and Bruce Springsteen - Bruce can't stand him because his political actions are in direct opposition to the strong content of most of Bruce's songs 2. Jeff Fitzgerald - He used Dropkick Murphy's song "shipping up to Boston"The Dropkick's were furious as Fitzgerald is a crony of Gov. Walker who is extremely anti-union and the Dropkick's are very pro-union especially the AFL - CIO. 3. Paul Ryan - Republican VP candidate - And Paul Ryans three favorite bands: Rage Against the Machine, Slayer and the Grateful Dead.... huh
Only Mitt Romney could have looked at Congress and said: I want the brains of that organization.
Tom Mo Those were FOX exit polls...need I say more?
Irishpjk. You said it brother, I had the same experience. Some pipsquaks at IC don't understand.
Eschetic. "The well educated voter, bla bla, well educated bands, songwriters and artists" are the answer. Have you ever noticed the videos of the exit polls of the 2008 elections? Those who voted for Obama didn't have a clue about civics, knew nothing about the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, the Second World War; didn't know what the American Revolution was about;didn't know that it was England the Colonists revolted against. They attributed quotes from Obama and Biden to McCain and Palin. They did't have a clue about America. But they were well up on American Idol, the View, and, as you call them "educated bands". Whatever it is you are smoking I'd suggest you cut down a little.
Antoinette Kelly There is no rage against immigrants in this country. The rage is against illegal immigrants.
wtf Are there a lot of confused people out there? Or is it a lot of stupidity? Or do they think the rest of us are stupid? When they talk about emigrants they class all emigrants the same. The emigrants with green cards waited on a list, went to a US Embassy and took a test, cleared a police back ground check and had a medical, and then they came here to live and work. They pay fees and taxes; I know this because that is how I got here. To show my appreciation for the privilege of bettering my life I served in the armed forces of this great nation. That was the best education an emigrant could get, you learn American history and culture you meet citizens from all parts of the world, all walks of life, race, color and creed, there is no better way to learn about your new homeland. Now you also have illegal emigrants here they are not the same as a green card holder, they broke all the rules and the law to get here, the don’t pay taxes, so at best they cheat and lie to live of the backs of the working people and want us to give them handouts. When people say I support the immigrants because my parents were immigrants they seem to forget about the green cards, did your parents have green cards if so that makes them different than what we are talking about.
Briano I don't know the Ramones music. I thought you would take your cue from Fox and the terrible musicians they show.My favourite album is "dark side of the moon" or "The Wall". Pink Floyd,The Kinks are my favorites.Ephraim you're a breath of fresh air.
