So true jamthecat, my father, an Irish immigrant died when I was seventeen.The two things I remember from my dad was, him always telling us to "apply ourselves" and when we "made it" extend a hand to someone who needed it. My mom a widow, also received Social Security because I had much younger siblings. The difference between myself and Ryan is we admired those Democratic principles (and Christian ones)which provided a safety net for the poor and the widow believing we were all in this together, rather than the I got mine, the hell with you, style of conservative anti government politics of Ryan that has no problem giving bigger and bigger tax cuts to billionaire hedge fund managers at the cost of everyone else.

He used social security benefits but wants to cut them for anyone else who might need them in the same situation. He claims to be a practicing Catholic but even the Catholic bishops think he's pushing an agenda that is contrary to the teachings of Christ in favor of the rich, whom Christ condemned. He is the epitome of what it means to be a liar and a hypocrite.

His economics is self serving and it frankly is hostile to ordinary folk
