A small group gathered outside the United States Supreme Court on Wednesday to protest against Arizona’s immigration law, which was being debated inside.

The current law entitles police officers to check the immigration status of people if they have “reasonable suspicion” the person may be in the country illegally.

Among the protesters were some immigration opponents, one who carried a large sign against the Irish E3 visa program.

The LA Times reports Bob Shoemaker,  from northern Virginia, held a banner urging New York’s Senator Charles E. Schumer  to drop a bill that would give amnesty to illegal Irish immigrants.

“We don’t care where you’re from, if you’re here illegally, go home,” he said. “We cannot afford to be the dumping ground of the Third World.”

The gathered crowd opposing Arizona’s strict law chanted and prayed as people told stories about how they have been affected.

Jim Shee (72) a retiree from Tuczon Arizona told opponents of the law how he had been stopped twice since the law was enacted because he “looked suspicious”.

“The thing everyone has to realize is this is not just a Hispanic or Latino issue,” he  told the LA Times. “Anyone of color can be affected.”

Wow a real slow new day at Irish Central. You have one idiot Know Nothing who doesn't even realize that the E3 HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AMNESTY and yet Irish Central runs a headline "Opponents protest against Irish E3 bill outside Supreme Court" Talk about hyperbole.
To the guy with the sign outside Capitol Hill - and to anyone else that believes the same as him: Senator Schumer's bill (S. 1983) does not provide amnesty for illegal immigrants from Ireland. It did originally, but he dropped the amnesty part months ago. It adds to H.R. 3012 the provision of 10,500 legal E-3 visas for skilled non-immigrant workers. Pittsburghkid - so... you support racial profiling and determining that a person might be in the United States illegally based on how they dress?
The Immigrantion Quotas of the Obama Administration are anti-Irish. This quota were set up by Ted Kennedy in the 1960's, and are the reason Whites are becoming a minority. The Arizona Law is a good law.
Few, if any, undocumented Irish unlawfully entered the country and they don't brinhg illegal drugs; they all speak English; almost none burders U.S taxpayers for subsidized housing, clothing allowance or food stamps, and all are willing to make valuable contributions to the nation, as did previous generations of Irish immigrants. In the 60s I was required to carry my alien card at all times, including the 4 years I honorably served in the Marine Corps. No one called that profiling, racism or nything else.
I wonder when and where Bob Shoemaker's ancestors came from. Germany possibly? And were they emigrants looking for work. Thousands of Irish built and died for America. Thousands of Irish worked on the Union Pacific Railway. Shoemaker insults Ireland and the Irish by calling it the Third World
Since when has Ireland been a 3rd world country!!!!!!! Send us all the Irish that want to come ,atleast we speak the same language and do not breed like Rabbits. I am tired of trying to talk to people that I can't understand and I will not learn Spanish, this is America!!!!!!
joan1954, where are the figures to prove your comment? Higher percentage than what or whom? You should also be aware Cavan is NOT in Northern Ireland. Ireland needs rebuilding, we do not need visas so more Irish can go to the US. Meddlers in the US should mind their own business. They do nothing for Ireland.
What my fellow Americans forget is that the Irish have a higher concentration of university graduates and personally I would like to see more of them come to the US. Teddy Kennedy and his ilk kept the Irish out of the US and now it is time for them to return and help rebuild this country.
IM IRISH I LIVE IN IRELAND AND WAS BORN HERE ... DO WE CARE OVER HERE ?? NAH !!COUNLDNT CARE LESS .. MOST IRISH NOWADAYS WHO MOVE ABROAD GOTO UK ENGLAND AUSTRALIA AND CHINA AND MOST PARTS OF EUROPE NOT AMERICA ANYMORE..
Well Ire. is heading for 2nd World status what with 30 years of private debt payback. So he was probably on to something.
Did this ignorant trout of a man really just call Ireland a Third World country?
