One in three Irish people, 1.5 million in all, will watch the Royal Wedding next week according to a new survey.

Despite mixed feelings about the British legacy in Ireland and the role of the Royal Family, the wedding will be one of the most watched events in recent Irish television history.

The UPC survey discovered the top reasons Irish women especially will tune in is to see the bride’s dress and to gaze at the many celebrities who have been invited.

Friday is a normal working day in Ireland but a holiday in Northern Ireland where viewing figures are expected to also be through the roof.

Some estimates say that two people in three in Northern Ireland will view the wedding.

However, the main Irish celebrity invited, Brian O’Driscoll, will be a no show.

The famed Irish international rugby player has a critical game against Toulouse for his side Leinster in the semi-final of the Heineken Cup the same weekend.

my missus is going to watch it all day, she's talked non stop about the fashion event of the year, who's gonna be there, she has even bought the Country Life wedding edition. She has given me a special pass that allow's me to go to the pub after the wedding!
..and why wouldn`t they watch - the Irish Guards, just back from Afghanistan, will be providing ceremonial duties and security along with the Welch (Welsh Guards)
I wish them the best, but way toooo early for me on the west coast.
I do wish them both the best of luck. They are two very sweet young people that need to enjoy life and each other. His mother was a very percious person and he has a great part of her in him. They both will do well as long as they take care of each other and listen to each other and not let the outside interfere.God Bless them both.
I wish them all the luck but i won't be viewing. It's like the songs says, the devil take nobility says the Irish Volunteer.
God forbid you be arrested and taken away during the wedding for watching it on the television without a television license. You be the talk of the parish.
Its a trap!! Any Irish that watch it on the television will be gathered up and taken away by them black tv license detector vans to an island. You must have a tv license here in Ireland to watch it..so I think the women here are screwed.
It is ashame that the English were so rude the Irish. If the Irish were accepted by the English, like the English accepted the Welsh, Scotch, and Cornish, then Ireland might be still part of Britian. Of course the Irish Nobles left the country, so Ireland is without it Nobles. They couldn't have been very noble to leave, so good riddens. I wonder if anyone has traced the ancesters of the Irish Nobles, that would be a tourist attraction. Find the last in the line of the Irish Nobles, and set them up in one of the old castles as a tourist attraction.
A UPC Survey ~ of how many people? I am sure many more than one in three will watch. Ireland will do what Mammy tells it and she will look enviously on the British Spleandour and wistfully musing that if it wasn't for all those busybody troublemakers fighting for this and that and God-knows-what; " all this could have been ours!" and " It should have been me.I hope everyone of honest heart and goodwill has an enjoyable and memorable day. .............Trealach: On William and Diana you have an interesting angle, but allow me to tilt it another way. Diana certainly 'rocked the boat' as hard as she could towards the end but the "Firm" kept steady under fire. William has never shown any of his mothers 'traits' in that regard. Quite the opposite. Any hopes she had that he would continue her attempts to undermine the 'establishment' are forlorn as Willian appears to understand his role exactly and faces his destiny with enthusiasm, dignity and courage. ~ just as his Grandmother Elizabeth did when the burden fell on her 22 year-old shoulders.
That's an interesting statistic 1 in 3. That's the ratio of women in Ireland, excluding females below the age of 18. So one can draw the conclusion that it will be the women of Ireland checking out the fashions. It also roves the point, which has been emphasised on this site, that there is NO interest in the Queen's visit, and that ONLY 1:3 welcome the visit. At least William, who certainly has his mother's heart and traits, will be better placed to beat off the 'establishment', which brought about his mother's death. I wish him and his bride a long and happy life.
the others will be too ..... to care
It's a chick thing.
I would not be bothered to watch this sort of thing but my mother would be all over it. I wouldn't get a look in at the telly, i would have to disappear some where else for the day.
