Irish sailor Peter O'Leary has been accused in Olympic betting scandal.

The Sunday Independent also reports that the Irish government are angry that they weren’t made aware of the allegations so close to the start of the 2012 Olympics.

Sports Minister Leo Varadkar told the paper: “I hope it did not mar morale in the Irish team.

“I only learnt about it today from the Irish Independent and don’t know the details. I understand it’s being investigated and I really hope it does not mar team morale at the start of what should be a great Olympics.”

Junior Sports Minister Michael Ring said: “I hope this is put to bed quickly and does not spoil the Olympics.”

I agree, billycurran! If guilty, he had to have placed the bets through intermediaries, like Hal Chase allegedly did, a century ago. Otherwise, the bookies would have been alerted that some sort of foul play was present. For those who don't know, Hal Chase was a superb defensive first baseman, who began his career with the New York Highlanders, soon to be officially known as the Yankees. He even won a batting crown, with the Cincinnati Reds, in 1916. Sadly, he will never make the Hall of Fame, due to his proclivity to bet against his own teams. His teammates in the know must have wondered, every day, which Hal Chase would be showing up: honest Hal, or crooked Hal!

If he did do it was it worth it for 3,600 Euro. I doubt he would put his reputation on the line for such a paltry sum and he is an idiot if he did it.

Cork, Hmmm, Michael O'Leary was born near Mallow. Could he be related? and is it one of Ryan Air's magical piece of advertising? Don't be surprised if you see the Ryan Air logo on the sail of Peter O'Leary's boat. Cork people are as cunning as Black Adder's " Baldrick ".
