he is the people Pres so get over yourself
That picture of Obama and Henry Healy is an embarrassment; it was shown the world over; drink is always associated with Ireland. Get a grip you clowns in Moneygall and figure out which county you're from; your hurling club plays (or did play) their hurling in Tipp, now you are in Offaly. Which is it? P.S. As they'd say around Kinvara : Healy should stick that pint where Jack stuck the 6 pence.
Your post is nonsense, Gobdaw. Clearly you have no problem departing from your 'standards'. A hypocrite on IC! I thought I would never live to see the day!
I was referring to two specific individuals in Moneygall who seem to think the leader of the free world has time to waste slugging beerand acting the clown with them. In prior posts I have made reference to the foul language that I encounter on every visit to Ireland, the use of the "F" word, the "C" word, the term 'bo***x, heck I sometimes hear people in Ireland using all three in the one sentence, 'f*** off ya C*** ye, yer only a bo***x, it comes so naturallyto them. Unless your name is Henry the eighth and very sensitive, there is nothing offensive about my earlier post.
Tom Mo, could we have a source for that 48% of Irish Catholic vote for the President? I'm sure you are not making it up, but a source would be nice. I'm sure you are aware, Tom, that Irish Central reported 50% of Catholics voting for the President vs 48% for Romney!
It's a grand idea. But, isn't time for the President to visit Northern Ireland. After all, his campaigner-in-chief, Bill Clinton, visited Northern Ireland three times during his Presidency.
@Gobdaw: Why did Obama bother to visit Moneygall? If you think that the people of Moneygall don’t know that Obama has more serious issues on his plate, then you are deluding yourself; if you think Irish people believed his heritage or his visit last year was an important issue in the election then you are deluding yourself. I mentioned his promise in a matter of fact way i.e. he made it -perhaps that's where the idea of a return springs from. So why did you call the people of Moneygall ‘mutants’? Perhaps you might surprise us all, and uphold the standards you previously believed were lacking in the Irish, and apologise for the use of this offensive language.
Kinvara, Obama promised a lot on far more important issues to americans if he was re-elected. Ireland is a beautiful place to visit, but it's people have an inflated view of it's position in the world. How much time did the president actually spend on Irish soil during his last visit? Obama seemed to thoroughly enjoy his few hours there, a favor to Dan Rooney and I hope he makes it back on a vacation when he leaves the white house, that is unless of course he sorts out all the problems facing the United States right now in a very speedy manner and has some time to kill. I happened to be speaking to a client in Ireland on election day and he opined that 'Obama would get the Irish vote'. I hadn't the heart to burst his bubble by explaining to him that the Irish haven't voted en-bloc since JFK in 1960, but the Irish can continue to delude themselves as they have proven they do so well - anyone remember Bertie's fairytale, the 'Celtic Tiger'? Irish America had(like everybody else) far more on its mind as it pondered who to vote for last tuesday than Obama's Irish heritage, or his visit last year.
Forget it Healey. You'll never see him again in Ireland. He got 48 percent of the Irish Catholic vote. A disgrace in my view.
one idiot in inviting a another idiot.
Amen BrianO!
@Gobdaw: Weren’t you criticizing Irish people for the use of offensive language before? Now you are calling the good people of Moneygall ‘mutants’. I believe Obama promised a return trip provided he was re-elected. I’m sure he will find the time in the second half of his term.
He used you like the one night stand it was, get over it already, and take your day after pill.
Are these mutants for real? President Obama has lots more on his plate right now than contemplating another visit to Ireland, except for a refueling stop in Shannon. He is barely back in the White House after the election. He must pretty much immediately address the 'fiscal cliff' crisis in DC, he needs to further address the 23 million americans who have no job, he needs to figure out how to prevent Iran and Israel from nuking each other etc.etc.etc. Despite what the Irish think, Ireland is of no importance to the United States and given all the problems that need his attention, the last thing he needs is a picture of him slugging a pint of guinness in Ireland appearing in the US media. Until he has at least addressed the three problems I highlighted, I would be very dissapointed with him wasting his time on a frivilous visit to Ireland for a pint wit de lads, a photo op with Enda, kissing the Blarney stone etc. And before the Ireland based Irish get their Irish up, I would be equally dissapointed if he went sunning his behind in the Bahamas, the south of France etc.. He can swill pints with his cousin to his hearts content when he has made further progress fixing major problems that affect the United States.
