Notre Dame’s triumphant return from Ireland was marred by a mid-air emergency after their director of player development collapsed on the flight home.

Ernest Jones is said to be in ‘stable condition’ at the Memorial Hospital of South Bend after his collapse on a Delta airlines charter.

Notre Dame’s director of player development and engagement for the football team, Jones will remain overnight at the hospital to undergo further evaluation and treatment for dehydration.

Athletic department spokesman John Heisler said Jones is listed in stable condition after he became ill and fainted with about two hours remaining on the team’s flight home.

The Notre Dame flight landed at Michiana Regional Airport about 11:50 p.m. Saturday and Jones was transported to Memorial at that time.

An ambulance was waiting for the flight at the airport and took Jones off the plane and to the hospital around 12:00 a.m. Sunday, according to local reports.

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick told WSBT that there was reason to believe Jones would be OK.

Swarbrick said: “All indications are is he is doing well. He experienced lightheadedness and an elevated heart rate.

“Fortunately, we have a lot of doctors as part of our crew and they took great care of him. The flight attendants did a great job and, as I say, everything looks great.

“As he headed out, he was alert, conscious and talking to everybody and saying he felt okay. Everybody responded effectively and he is on his way to the hospital.”

The report says that Jones serves as a liaison between the players and coaches and other support systems, such as academic advising.

He is a person that players can come to if they have a concern or need help but might not be comfortable sharing it with the coaches.

Jones also helps coordinate community service projects, and also coordinates and monitors study hall sessions.

I sincerely hope Ernest Jones is home and well at this time. So happy there were doctors available.
I had tickets to game and Hotel but was Hospitalized and could'not go. Luckily I GOT The Tickets to Fr TobiN who was in Ireland trying to get tickets. ScalperSwaned 2 thousand euros per tickets. Fr Tobin our former Pastor in Cocoa Beach was very Happy to get the Tickets. We got the Tickets to him thru Nolans Pub in Cocoa Beach. Thanks JP
Frankly, I think the man just had a little too much Guinness, dehydrated and it was as simple as that. I wish him a speedy recovery.
I hope Mr. Jones fully recovers and is able to return to work soon. After reading the comments made by PhlutiePhan, I have got to say how absolutely stupid they are. With no knowledge of what Mr. Jones’ responsibilities are, this idiot assumes that “his entire job is to work with black players.” How stupid can one person be? By the way, do you know what ASSUMES really means? It means there’s an ASS between U and ME. You should get your story straight before making any comments. Enes Kanter was found to have “personally” received $33,000 from Fenerbachce Ulker – a Turkish professional basketball team. The NCAA then made Kanter permanently ineligible to play college basketball. As for Cam Newton, it was his father and not Cam that was found to have asked for money for him to play at a certain school. Because an FBI, Auburn, and NCAA investigation could find nothing to indicate Cam had done anything wrong, he was not charged. When Newton went from junior college back to a Div. I school, almost every major school, including OU, Texas, Auburn, and even Florida wanted him. Why is it then that only one school complained that his father wanted money? All the schools were investigated and not one said they were contacted by Cam or his father. That’s why he was cleared. Cam has gone on to the NFL, but you seem to have forgotten that Kantor went on to the NBA, so he did not do that bad after all, right? You also speculated that Obama had something to do with Newton not getting nailed. Can you really be that stupid? I hate Obama as much as anyone, but I don’t think even he would try something like that.
Sorry to hear about the illness of Ernest Jones. I wish him a speedy recovery. Nevertheless, it is obvious that his entire job is to work with the black players. This is a sad commentary on the state of college football. A high percentage of black players are definitely not college material. If Notre Dame has to use "smoke and mirrors", the known cheaters in college football "steal the NCAA blind" and the NCAA knows it. The Cam Newton saga with Auburn and the refusal of the NCAA to get involved is a major scandal. Enes Kanter from Turkey and Kentucky had relatives do the same thing as Newton. Kanter was nailed and Newton went on the the NFL to make millions Probably with Obama's influence.
