What we need to consider, is many of the judges are probably practising Catholics, in Ireland anyway, and there must be a deep rooted mentality to 'strike' a priest or a religious would send you to hell. I know of judges and magistrates who groan when they can't get out of bringing a court order or conviction against one appearing before them.

@Bernadett - there are still many catholics "in denial" about the crimes and actions of individual priests, and are still actively supporting them. Oliver O'Grady and Eugene Greene are but two who undoubtedly still receive stipends from the church or church members. Even retired Bishop of Ferns, Brendan Comiskey lives in a bungalow that was paid for out of diocesan funds. That is why I no longer contribute directly to church collections.

well you must remember in Ireland the church was running the country up until the s..t hit the fan regarding all thees priests, one only has to read the Murphy Report to see how the bishops could walk into police stations and do as they pleased. I think it is a disgrace, just another example of evil masquerading as priests and do gooders. He should have been locked up for the rest of his life. Dont understand any justice system that allows the likes to be free and live among people to continue their evil ways. I am sure there are hundreds of victims for each one of these child molesters. We have to come up with an effective way to deal with them, I recommend castration.
