“The information we received was because he wasn’t supplying to the various people around the town. It was a primitive enough setup,” added Insp Walker.

Wives and partners of personnel stationed at Dun Ui Neill Barracks in Cavan have put together a petition of over 5,000 names in less than 48 hours campaign to keep the barracks in Cavan open.
The petition was available at a public meeting in the Farnham Arms Hotel last Monday night, which was attended by over 400 people all campaigning against the mooted closure of the installation.
The meeting heard from Government TD Joe O'Reilly that no decision has yet been made on the issue. He promised to put the arguments for Dun Ui Neill to Defence Minister, Alan Shatter.

An “alarming” upsurge in criminal activity in the East Clare area has been attributed to one gang, described by gardaí as “very serious criminals” who are “very organised” and are not afraid “to take on the gardaí”.
At a meeting of the Clare Joint Policing Committee last week, Councillor Joe Cooney described the increase in burglaries and thefts in the East Clare area over a two-week period as “alarming”.
He asked the panel, made up of the county’s Chief Superintendent John Kerin, Ennis Superintendent Peter Duff, Ennistymon Superintendent Colm O’Sullivan, JPC chairman Councillor Joe Arkins and county manager Tom Coughlan, if there is any reason for this and if they are aware of the situation.
Chief Superintendent John Kerin explained the gardaí are aware there had been “an upsurge in criminal activity in the East Clare area in the last two weeks”.
