A distraught Irish-American mom is desperately trying to raise $4000 to witness the execution of her nine-year-old daughter’s murderer.

Tina Curl wants to travel from her New York home to South Dakota to see killer Donald Moeller executed by lethal injection.

Her daughter Becky O’Connell went to a store to buy candy on May 8th 1990 and never came home.

The following morning, her body was found in a wood in the Lincoln County area of South Dakota.

Moeller raped little Becky before he slit her throat and dumped the body into a ditch.

Mum Tina and husband Dave Curl had moved to South Dakota from New York to bring Becky up in a safer environment. She now lives in a mobile home in Lake Luzerne and has survived on.

Tina told the New York Daily News: “I’ve just got to see him die. I’ve got to see him pay for what he did to my baby.

“She was all I had, she was something that I thought no one would take away from me. I finally had something that was all mine, and he took that away from me.

“We will only find justice when Donald Moeller is strapped to a gurney, fighting for his final breath. It’s something I need to see with my own eyes.”

Curl told the paper she remains haunted by her decision to let Becky go out by herself to buy candy in the local convenience store.

She added: “I live with that every day. She left home just after 5 o’clock that day. The next time I see her, she was lying in a casket.

“He watched my daughter take her last breath. I want to watch him take his last breath.”

Tina Curl’s attitude to life deteriorated after her daughter’s murder.
She became an alcoholic and suffered serious health issues including a heart attack and a vascular disease in her legs.

Husband David was laid off last month, leaving the family with no cash to fund the trip to Sioux Falls to witness Moeller’s last stand, according to the report.

The New York Daily News says the couple are currently living off a monthly $720 disability check.

A recent fundraiser helped the family raise almost a thousand dollars towards the cost of the trip, with Tina looking to donors to allow her to take a road trip to see Moeller die at the end of October.

Tina said: “I don’t like to ask people for anything but at this point, I’m ready to beg, borrow and steal.

“I suspect some people are reluctant to donate because it involves an execution.

“I believe that if it was their daughter, they’d believe in it and they would want people to help them.”

Moeller was a neighbour of the curls in South Dakota. He was initially convicted in 1992 but retried and found guilty a second time after an appeals court overturned the verdict.

His death penalty case had dragged on for years in federal court until earlier this month when he told a federal judge that he wanted the execution to go forward.

Well-said, Lake Isle! The only problem with the death penalty in the States is that it's too humane and the appelate process can drag on for years. The disgusting cho-mo should have been hanged decades ago for his heinous crime. Some of you are indeed insensitive to a grieving mom's plight; ever lost a kid?
@johnnymac no sh*t, take a greyhound for 200 round trip a motel six for a night or two, and she'll be back in the trailer to pick up the disability check on monday.
I'm OH so happy that Mr. Mohangi lived a full life of thankfulness. Payback, I'm sure for the life he so ruthlessly murdered then -- in a bid to escape punishment -- butchered like a steer in the slaughterhouse. Seven years? Not even one year for every year his victime had on this earth? We, the unwashed masses, call it revenge; the enlightened amongst you call it "Karma". And guess what, jacersagain? I only gasped in disbelief when I read the sentance that scum was given.
(… more) What really happened, and as factually documented, Mohanghi served time in jail, but – not most recognised in Ireland’s Catholic Christian history, but it’s still there – he was frequently visited by the sinner-forgiving but not the sin-forgiving Catholic parents of the murdered woman (Yes, this is where you, the reader, is allowed a gasp of disbelief). They became friends, a historical fact - over loads of heartbreaking chats in the jail where Mohanghi was, bringing forgiveness and what else through the period of Mohanghi’s detention. After release from our Irish prison system, Mr. Mohangi returned to his native country and lived a full life in thankfulness of the forgiveness of the Irish Catholic parents of the woman that he killed, cut up and dumped in a Dublin dump bin. Ms Curl might take a leaf out of this story of Irish Catholic Christian forgiveness and especially its fruits. It won’t serve Ms. Curl’s own life, or her descendants’ lives, to do what she selfishly desires. IMHO, not one single person should donate a single cent to furthering Ms Curl's life’s hurt. God bless and help her.
In my opinion, this lady needs to learn from a not too-long-ago Irish murder story. There was a "foreigner" fella called Mohangi who came to Ireland and worked in a restaurant in Dublin’s Harcourt Street who killed an Irish girl, his one-time girlfriend, in Dublin over a love/jealousy thing. After killing her, with his knowledge of kitchen butcher work, didn’t he go and callously cut up her body in pieces and try to dispose of her remains in the restaurant’s meat waste collector’s dustbin. He was found out. He was tried and convicted. There was outrage that he was committed to only 7 yrs in jail for manslaughter. In fact, the outrage in Ireland was so bad that d’oul Dubliners’ wits said that if you take the name ‘M’ohang’i’ an’ switch the first letter of his name (M) to the last, you would get O’hang’im; that’s how bad the popular outcry voice was for him to be hung (execution by hanging for murder was still legal in Ireland at that time). Now listen up a very big much (more…) while I go begging your and everyone's pardon and attention please...
What'swrong with Grayhound? I hope it breaks down on the way,so she realises the pointlessness of her vindictiveness. A true Christian would pray for both their souls.
Obviously, IC is not sympathetic to their plight or you would have provided info where to contribute. Unlike the other commentators, I do not judge them because thankfully, I have never walked in their shoes. If attending the execution brings some closure to these tortured souls, then, I will be sending my funds. Hopefully, these insensitive commentators will never have to find out how they would feel.
For that money she could buy a whole new wardrobe, spend a day at the spa, travel 1st class and have money left over. Is this really about justice?
I could think of better things to do with $4000.00 pretty sick thing to want to see. I hope know one is crazy enough to give it to her.
$4,000 to travel from NY to SD ? Is she going by taxi ?
I think Ms. Curl should realise that an eye for an eye just makes us all blind. She would be better for her daughters memory if she sobered up & did something useful to the community instead of seeking revenge
The killer was certainly perverted and I think the mother is just as perverted. What joy can she get from watching someone die. If she is so desperate she should find the money herself instead of hoping others will fund her fetish.
I understand her desire to be there...but to ask the public-at-large to subsidize the trip is ridiculous. Seeing the execution is not going to make her feel any better. As Nicopernicus said, she needs to find inner peace. I'd be more likely to contribute money for her to go for extensive therapy than I would be to send her off to witness the execution...although, truthfully, I can't afford to do either...otherwise I'd probably be in therapy myself, LOL.
Its unfortunate that her equating being a witness to this psychopaths death by lethal injection will somehow rid her of the mental chains she bears due to his actions., Nothing could be further from reality and while she may have the ability to rationalize...and rightly so, Nothing will cleanse her mind other then finding her own inner peace,.
I hope she gets the money for the trip. When it's a clear-cut case that the criminal is guilty of a horrible and psychotic murder(and especially when there is potential danger to others)I think it's very helpful to have execution as the punishment. I wish that was the same in Europe. In the ancient Vedic culture of India execution by the king of murderers was seen as helpful for everyone: the karmic debt of the criminal is reduced. The modern idea of putting the psychos in prison, at great expense to the tax-payer, is very unusual. Just like the parents of the young people killed by the weirdo in Norway last year are tax-payers, and they're now contributing towards the cost of the meals and housing of the murderer who killed their children.
