Besides Brooklyn Heights, lower Manhattan also has a few strong Irish connections: the John Street Methodist Church which stands on the grounds of the first Methodist house of worship in N.Y.C. established by Methodists from Ballyingrane (near Adare), Co Limerick in the 1760s; a plaque on the street near Bowling Green to honor Rev. Francis Makemie, the Donegal Presbyterian who is regarded as "the Father of American resbyterianism"; a plaque near the door of St. Paul's Epiccopal Church to General Richard Montgomery, a native of Swords, Dublin, who was the first general of the Continental Army to fall in the Revolutionary War.
