New Irish leader Enda Kenny will be guest of honor at a St. Patrick’s Party at the White House with President Obama, it has been confirmed.
Kenny will also attend the American Ireland Fund dinner in Washington on March 16 and may well stop off in New York on his way to D.C.
However, further arrangements for new government travel over the St. Patrick’s period will not be known until the rest of the Irish Cabinet is named.
Ministers are due to fly to various destinations, but no arrangements have been made. The Department of Foreign Affairs, according to the “Irish Independent,” has received suggested itineraries from embassies worldwide. Currently visits to Washington and London seem most likely.
Officials told the “Irish Independent” that countries with large Irish communities were a priority for travel.
In 2010 Brian Cowen's trip to the White House cost Ireland $250,000. The former Minister for Health Mary Harney and former Enterprise Minister Batt O'Keeffe spent $47,271 and $41,710, on trips to New Zealand, and Japan and Korea.
Details of this year's trips abroad will be revealed later this week.

Just when the world was starting to understand the Irish word Taoiseach, it seems Enda Kenny doesn't like it. Sad, really, the Irish language means more to me than a bowl of shamrocks!

This is so embarrassing, I am always hoping this tradition will end, but not yet. What the hell does the leader of the world's most powerful nation do with a bowl of shamrock? What does an Irish leader have to say to such a leader - nothing - except suck up! Ireland has been a member of the EU for almost 30 years, it's time it started acting like a mature, independent state. It could stop allowing Irish airports to be used for the cause of war, i.e. stop violating OUR OWN constitution!

The clover should be fedexed and given to King to present. Save a bunch to give to bondholders like Chelsea's oligarch owner. They know how to suck blood from turnips.

Wish the comments were really comments and not just a vulgar slagging match between antoman and sirpeter. As for Loyal Citizen's comment, she/he should note that the Taoiseach is invited to the White House every year by the US President. The Taoiseach does not invite himself.

Sirpeter-ah sure half these bast*rds are having such a good time working and getting laid that they've forgotten about us old eejits and our dogs on Patricks street.
sirpeter | Mar 09, 2011, 09:40 PM EST
antoman..I keep saying that...Stupid bast*rds..It's An Taoiseach...JAMES O'BRIEN..Do it again and I'm going to throw the fu*ks into ya..If this is a site about all things Irish...Then use the correct terminology. Ireland doesn't have a prime minister...Address our leader in the correct way...An Taoiseach...Is that to much to ask?
antoman | Mar 09, 2011, 12:16 PM EST
Quit anglicizing the office by calling him prime minister. Its Taoiseach.Always has been and always will be.You speed up the demise of our native language by using english/french labels.
antoman | Mar 09, 2011, 11:18 AM EST
Its Taoiseach not prime minister.

Nothing like delusions of grandeur from dopey Irish Politicians. Always pretending to be world leaders.
