New Boston Magazine photos show SWAT team tackle Dzhokhar Tsarnaev
Graphic photos show protract manhunt Dzhokhar Tsarnaev
Newly released photographs show the moment SWAT officers seized Boston Bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
Boston Magazine published the new photos in a story titled, "Behind the Scenes of The Hunt for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev."
Sergeant Sean Murphy, a tactical photographer for the Massachusetts State Police, captured the graphic shots on April 19, when the chase for the fugitive shut down the entire city of Boston after the bombing.
The newly released photos document the moment the 19-year-old terrorism suspect climbed out of the boat in a backyard in suburban Watertown, Massachusetts and surrendered.
One shot shows how SWAT officers pounced on the Boston bombing suspect. A bloody faced Tsarnaev was shot multiple times when officers fired 100 rounds into his hiding place
Sergeant Murphy’s photos originally made headlines when he released images of the manhunt to Boston Magazine in July, after Rolling Stone magazine placed Tsarnaev on the cover.
“I hope that the people who see these images will know that this was real. It was as real as it gets. This may have played out as a television show, but this was not a television show,” he wrote.
“What Rolling Stone did was wrong. This guy is evil. This is the real Boston bomber. Not someone fluffed and buffed for the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.”
Boston Magazine published a second set of Sgt Murphy's images in the September issue. They were released online on Wednesday.
Murphy, a 25-year veteran of the state police was reprimanded after he leaked the photos. As a result of the leak he was transferred far away from Boston to Athol, Massachusetts, where he is currently working the 11pm to 7am graveyard shift.
