Nevin is feted after silver medal confirms Ireland’s best Olympic haul since 1956

It might be the "best Olympic haul since 1956", but the reality is that the performance in athletics was deplorable. Check out an article in yesterday's on line Dublin Sunday Independent by a guy called Sweeney. He demonstrates the bad failures of the athletic teams. And by that I don't mean that they didn't win, I mean that they were many seconds short of their previous best this season. Sweeney lists other runners who were not sent to London who were actually running better than those who were sent. It seems that Ireland even sent some runners who were injured! The biggest disappointment for me was our own polevaulter Pena--she didn't even get one vault in!
