Interesting...I did not write one of these posts, yet my name is on it....BTW, I just caught a glimpse of a banner hanging alongside the Kennedy Expy that states "Natasha McShane Day".....didn't catch the date though.

Chicago is and always has been a high crime city. Two young girls walking alone at 3:am was a crime waiting to happen. What a shame no one warned them. As for placing blame on the cops, they can't be in all places at all times. Crime and politics in Chicago are in the sewer. If they were black or hispanic there would be a lot more outrage. Al Sharpton and our President would be spewing from their soap boxes. I really hope the young girl gets better, I will keep her and her family in my prayers.

Southside - do you read or wantch the news? It is a war zone on the streets of our city. As far as the cops go...I never see them actually enforcing any laws.....they are too busy yapping on their personal cell phones which, oh yeah, is against the law! Seriously, things have really deteriorated here.

Name any large city in the world where two young women can be walking @ 3:a.m and be safe. People (especially women) beware of your surroundings and take the proper procedures to remain safe.My heart goes out to these two women and their families and to all victims..

I don't think there's a city any where in the world where two women can be safe walking at 3am without attention being drawn to them, sad but true.. Ladies be aware of your surroundings at all times ,regardless of what country you're in. My thoughts and prayers for these two girls, for their families and for all victims.

Mary Mitchell is an awful source of information. Are you kidding me? These poor girls were attacked at 3am iside an isolated viaduct. The CPD is to blame; really? Please name me one city that has police presence on every block; on every corner; 24-7.
Savage; brutal attack - but certainly not the fault of Mayor Daley or the Chicago Police Department. Maybe; just maybe we should look at how these beasts were raised - or the lack thereof.
Mary Mitchell should be ashamed of herself.

As a native Chicagoan, I am outraged at what happened to Natasha. While I hate to think what is happening in my city, Michael Sheehan is dead wrong in his assessment. While I understand that you don't want the world thinking badly of your city, I think Chicago has never recovered from the Al Capone days and the reputation it left behind. Unfortunatley, violent crime is happening here everyday and it is perpetuating the reputation. Even the natives have sat up and taken notice. I have never seen crime in Chicago as bad as it is now.....to the point that for the first time in my life, I have considered moving out of the city. It is so bad that they are talking about calling in the National Guard. Don't get me wrong, I love my city...it is beauiful here and there is so much to do. I am always proud to show off my city and say that this is my hometown...and I would also say that the mayor and the police need to get off their asses (and their cell phones) and DO SOMETHING!!!!
