The Traveling community leave their filth strewn everywhere and they are dirty..But who poisons the rivers and lakes and leaves huge areas a poisoned wasteland?...The settled community.
The Traveling community are aggressive..But who fights all the wars and exploits the weakest in our lands...The settled community.
The Traveling community are thieves and not to be trusted...But who is stealing €85 billion of our money and giving it to the Rich...The settled community.
The Traveling community aren't remotely sociable...But who moves them along with the help of the police, and doesn't like to have them near them, and tells them they are not welcome in most places...The settled community.
Whatever anti-Social behavior is done by the Traveling community..It is done 100 fold by the settled community.
It's the same old story. You have 100..200 bad expediences by the settled community, but it only takes one or two bad expedience from a traveler to label them all as dirt. They are the forgotten people, outcasts. They have been around 500 years maybe longer and have been very useful to society for hundreds of years. They have been treated no better then dogs. They have been pushed off common scrub land that was owned by nobody, where they were happy, into concrete halting sites. Considering how they have been treated,it's no wonder they go berserk, and beg,rob and tear the sh*t out of places at times.

What fuels hatred of the Travelling community is their total disrespect for anyone or anything. They leave their filth strewn everywhere - soiled diapers and general rubbish, they're aggressive, and they commit acts of vandalism. They aren't remotely sociable. I have a lot of respect for the culture, and it's a case of the good ones suffering because of the actions of the not so good.

The Romanian and Irish Gypsies are a blight on the landscape. One cannot walk down O'Connell Street in Dublin without being accosted by the women in Shawls begging for money. Allegedly under the Shawl is a Baby. When I was in Dublin last September I saw a Ban Garda(Woman Cop) busting one of them. Under the Shawl was a little Plastic Doll I don't know what the outcome was in that case but it's not uncommon. Another act they put on, while asking you for money, one of their little children will try and pick pocket some unsuspecting person. They are pretty good at it also. How are they allowed into the Country? The place is crawling with them!!!

These shows capture excatly what happens. I know this because I attended one recently. Christenings, Communions and Confirmations are all the same. The only reason the Travellers are angry is because it brings up the issue of how they can fund such events. Obviously, these are questions that they do not like answering for apparent reasons - they get the money by wheeling and dealing. Its a joke.

There are two things here: respect for a different culture and elements of the Travelers with little respect for the majority. The wedding traditions are theirs and who cares! Crime etc. is a totally different issue. Hispanic culture celebrates Quinceanera (15th birthday) and then there's Sweet Sixteen here with much extravagance and overspending. Brits seem to have a tradition of poking fun of Irish anyway even non-Travelers.

I am, in general, tolerant of ‘alternative lifestyles’, but I struggle to see what the ‘Traveller community’ contributes to our society. They cheat our old people, turn rural towns into battlegrounds, and raise children who have no aspiration except to join the ‘welfare queue’. Whether or not they are friendly or devout, they seem to be in a cul de sac, not good for them or the rest of us.

I saw one episode of the CH4 documentary. It was disgraceful. Irish Travellers are amongst the most fervent believers in Catholicism (remember them at Knock last year?) but I saw another video clip of a Traveller wedding in which the bride was so skimpily dressed (mini-skirt legs and huge boobs all on display) that - when you think how women visiting St. Peters Basilica are required to cover their legs and shoulders and men to cover their torso and knees - it was a wonder she was let into the church at all for her own wedding.... Double standards, eh? See chateaudelu(dot)blogspot(dot)com/2009/03/irish-traveller-update_12

I agree 100% with DanoLoingsigh... What about C4 asking where the Travellers are getting the Cash for these extravagant Weddings - -What about the Huge Houses these Travellers have in Ireland ... Where is all This Money coming From?? Drugs??.. C4 should do a documentary " MY BIG FAT TRAVELLERS LIFESTYLE" none of these lads have bank Accounts and have no visable means of Income ( They are all on the Dole ( Social Welfare) ))yet the are driving around in Large Cars & 4x4 etc...have Huge Houses...etc...

All I saw were bits and pieces...I know in every culture there is good and bad..who are we to judge?..I hate to tell some of you all high and mighty people ,..we... one day will have to come together..and one reminder to all..when we finally do get to heaven..WE ARE ALL GOING TO BE BLOW-INS...

I agree that this programme shows a narrow and mis-representative portrayal of travellers. Where are the Clan feuds, featuring slash hooks and baseball bats, or their fondness for fraudulent trading in various scams, especially on older more gullible folk?

If the film crew was there with the Travellers' consent then it’s too late for remorse. The documentary had a huge viewership and while many laughed at the ‘vulgarity’ of the outfits I think that more were impressed at the high morals of the young women. I'm surprised at how the community is permitted to remove their daughters from school at such a young age and I’m disappointed that education for women is considered superfluous.
