The brother of murdered dissident Republican Alan Ryan has been charged with membership of the IRA.

Vincent Ryan, a 22-year-old from North Dublin, was one of three men charged with IRA membership at Dublin’s Special Criminal Court.

The three were amongst 17 men questioned after a Real IRA show of strength at Alan Ryan’s funeral last week.

Police swooped after a volley of three shots was fired in a salute as Ryan’s coffin was accompanied by men in IRA paraphernalia to the funeral service.

The Irish Independent reports that Ryan’s younger brother was charged with membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself as the Irish Republican Army or the IRA under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, on September 13 last.

Also charged with the same offence were 33-year-old Nathan Kinsella and 23-year-old Darragh Evans.
Up to 200 officers had raided a number of houses in Dublin, Meath, and Kildare as part of their follow-up operation.
