its the man(normally the more dominant and controlling} who was just as guilty as the wife,he should be jailed, she should be fined and allowed to look after her children.she is the tip of the iceberg, welfare abuse is endemic.
Seanmor. if you read the book Eve was framed by helena Kennedy you will see how court judges punish women much more severely than men. but propaganda states otherwise.
Why was her husband not convicted as well? My X was discovered to have committed benefit fraud, but the Dept refused to prosecute him, saying it would cost too much. Surely that is our Government aiding and abetting a criminal? Regarding this woman, putting her in jail. How much will it cost to house her in jail? How much will it cost the tax payer to pay for the care of her children, supervised visits, etc. If this is not a money making exercise, I don't know what is and we the tax payers are footing the bills, keeping the people poor.
"Theyre entitled to it." Yes, because of the crazy Irish policies, which mean that someone can mosey in from Poland or latvia and sign on for Irish welfare, which is maybe ten times the value of the welfare they'd get in the old country. Just last week a Polish guy on welfare in Ireland was arrested for killing his Irish girl-friend. I've been in Irish Post Offices on Welfare Day, and I saw the long lines of foreign migrants lining up to collect the benefits paid by hard-pressed Irish taxpayers. It's madness. Ireland can never solve it's unemployment problem while thousands of new welfare tourists flood in every month. Dopeydexy thinks that's just fine.
An Irish Times article on Travellers last year reported Traveller males as highly discriminatory, patriarchal, and reactionary towards their womenfolk. A nun who worked with Travellers described them as as very aware of their rights and entitlements but less so of their responsibilities. There is a Settled Traveller Unit in Dublin City (and other) Councils that discriminate in favour of Travellers. They are housed in accomodation unbeknownst to other tenants, subsequently lowering health, safety and hygiene to the detriment of everyone concerned. On getting single flats, they then share with others, moving from one to the other continuing their nomadic lifestyle, and monopolising accomodation to the detriment of others on the long housing lists. This case if probably the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
Seanmor, 70,000 non Irish people claim the dole here. Theyre entitled to it. This woman commied 'fraud'. Theres a difference. We have had less than 1000 people claim asylum here this year. They get €19.10 a week per adult and €9.60 per child. They get housed, usually in shared accommodation so stop with the scare mongering. The excessive cost comes from Irish lawyers charging the state ridiculous amounts of money. I suggest you travel and see how the majority of people live. Not everyone has an easy life.
Although, I think this woman is guilty of fraud, couldn't she have been fined a large sum of money, rather than be put her in jail? I agree with Murph46 on this one. Jail is for violent criminals. This is a non-violent offense. What about her children? This judge didn't use common sense.
George Dillon-How could you possibly construe from my post that I condone welfare fraud,I;m merely pointing out inequity in the law and system.Come on I take you for smarter than that.
Could it be that this woam has long been aware of the millions the Irish state pays to foreigners 'on the dole'? In 2009 the figure was €400 million to immigrants, legal and illegal. A recent article mentioned that asylum seekers at present are costing the state €100 million a year -with no end in sight. Since the Dáil crowd are so generous in dishing out taxpayers' money to foreigners, the judge could have shown more leniency to this native Irish woman.
So you two posters think it's OK to commit welfare fraud? To steal the people's money? I sure don't. Though I note this lady is a tinker, I guess she feels "alienated" from regular society and thinks Irish workers should work and pay taxes in order to keep her in money.
If this lady was a banker they would not bother to investigate her.............Banking fraud destroying a nation is OK, but Social Welfare Fraud is not...............I hope the Bankers pay back the money as this lady did.
If she was a drunk driver and killed someone, she would walk!Go figure!
