John McAreavey, the widower of Michaela McAreavey (nee Harte), who was murdered on her honeymoon in January 2011, is launching a summer camp for teenage girls. The camp, part of the Michaela Foundation, aims to reflect the spirit in which she lived her life.

The camp will incorporate all the things that were important to Michaela. McAreavey told his local newspaper the Dromore Leader, “I wanted to establish a camp for young girls aged 11-13 that would provide them with an environment which reflects the core values of The Michaela Foundation whilst having the most fun a camp can offer.”

He said the camp will give those who take part a sense of empowerment. John explained the camp will include “new fashion styles, cupcake design, making rose bath bombs, healthy eating, Irish singing, understanding the rosary and a lot more.”

McAreavey now lives in Tullylish, where he and his new wife had planned to settle after their honeymoon. Michaela’s murder trial is set to begin next week. McAreavey will travel to Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, along with other family members.

According to reports in the Irish Independent he will be one of 30 witnesses at the trial. Her father Tyrone GAA team’s manager Mickey Harte and decided he will not attend the trial. It is set to last no more than two weeks.

Michael was murdered in Legends hotel while on honeymoon. It is believed that she interrupted thieves in her suit. She returned to the bedroom to get a biscuit to have with her tea. Her husband found her strangled in the bath. They had been married just one month.

i attended the camp it was such a tribute to michaela just to bythebay if you had attended this camp for just a few moments you would have been welcomed with smiles from ear to ear everyone brought something to the camp from the youngest to the oldest! the girls were inspirational! everyone was welcome and it was all about making the girls the best that they could be... not to make them like anybody else but themselves it taught the girls that they are unique and that they were capeable of anything if they put their mind to it... just like michaela
bythebay, you disgusting sad loner
Quite probably a good conclusion to a rather sad episode. The loss of ones loved one, not least on ones honey moon, has got to be one of the worst nightmares imaginable. A beautiful Ulster/Northern Ireland lass who taugh the Irish language (Gaelic) to school children in County Tyrone. RIP!
Why is this case regarding residents of Northern Ireland, UK which is not part of Ireland on IC? There have been dozens of murders of young and old of both sexes in Ireland and nary a word about them or their families on IC.
I think the summer camp for girls is a great tribute to the memory of Michaela McAreavey.
I think it's somewhat abrupt to refer to John McAreavey as "McAreavey" when "Mr McAreavey" would be more appropriate. There is also a mis-spelling of his late bride's name where she is referred to as "Michael." Not good enough! Your proof reading needs to improve. I wish John McAreavey every success with his Summer Camp and with the Michaela Foundation.
