Let's go back to square one. This day is to honor a man who brought the true faith to Eire. It was observed in Eire by having extra masses in the morning and closing all pubs for the day.If only we still lived in a civilized society we would adopt that practice here. The money-hungry who encourage the present state of affairs could go scratch.

Good Lord, this is worse. I still think a venue should be found for the parade groups, a park, maybe where a FAMILY oriented, respectful celebration could occur. AND instead of cancelling the parade, close the bars until 2pm. Now there will be all the problems but no parade.

This pub crawl is sponsored by a private person, Luke Q. The City of Hoboken has nothing to do with it. Does he work at a Hoboken bar? This event is a silly finger in the face to the mayor. Grow up, Luke! You're only lending credence to the mayor's objections to a parade on Saturday-- too many drunks committing too many crimes in Hoboken and people going to Ohboken to get drunk, not to hear the pipe bands. Will a Saturday pub crawl end those problems? I pity the police officers and sanitation workers who have to clean up the streets March 3.

It's sad when the Irish Clubs/Pipe Bands can't march and the dance troupes aren't allowed to step it out to show the Hobokenites what being Irish is really about. Yep, St Patrick certainly preached about the virtues of acting like a drunken azz and being disrespectful to your fellow man- NOT!!

It had been a nightmare with each year getting worse. Residents would flee Hoboken each year to avoid the drunken 20 somethings lining up outside of bars and pubs at 9AM. The next day the streets would be filled with trash and vomit and urine. The parade lasts about 45 minutes, but the drunkenness lasted all day. They are doing the right thing in canceling.

Well, Hoboken isn't Paris. The Hoboken Police were keyed up to make arrests for minor infractions. The obvious answer is if the City doesn't want a "gathering" don't have one.

I mean, what could possibly go wrong? This imaginative response to a real problem shows that when people pull together they can make an already bad situation so much worse.

This Mayor is a fool. The 1st Saturday will not be stopped. The real crime being committed is the $20.00 cover charges at these bars. This day is hand over fist for the bar the owners. If it is such a problem, the bar owners should have to dig in their pockets to pay for the extra police. Their is enough $$ to go around in that town.
