Pultizer Prize winning Irish writer Frank McCourt will be given a Mass on Wednesday, August 19 in New York.

Poignantly, the much-loved author of "Angela's Ashes" would have celebrated his 79th birthday on the 19th.

The Mass will take place at 6 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus at 207 W. 96th St. in Manhattan.

The celebrated author’s brother, Malachy McCourt, will deliver the eulogy.

McCourt passed away on July 19 in a New York hospice while surrounded by family and friends. It is expected that his ashes will be scattered on his beloved Shannon river in Limerick, Ireland.

A memorial celebration of the “Angela’s Ashes” author’s life has been set for October 6 at the Symphony Space on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

While McCourt was alive, he made his apprehensions about public memorials known.

“I’ve been to a lot of memorial services in New York lately, Arthur Miller and so on,” he told the Irish Voice/IrishCentral. “They are very pompous occasions. I don’t want that.”
