While I have huge respect for Ms. Robinson, I have to say it is nonsense for her to say this at this time in Ireland’s deepest recession. While I see her point that we may re-establish ourselves to be independent as an economically sovereign country sometime in the future, in fact here will be no way out of this for decades, especially for the young generation in Ireland. She studiously ignored to mention the unnecessary deaths of people caused by this recession or the departure of so many young Irish people from Ireland’s shores. A case in point were the deaths of two people in their 60’s found dead in a Dublin home for the elderly caused by hypothermia, as reported elsewhere on ICentral. They froze to death because the man couldn’t afford to heat his house and both were also found to have not eaten for several days. This is just totally wrong, even in recession-hit Ireland. There are also too many other cases in point – the increasing number of suicides of the young and not-so-young over the past couple of years due to despair. Ms. Robinson is too privileged in her life today and thereby clouded in her claims.

Robinson, you're clueless. Even worse than your heroine, Aung Sang's daughter!

Mary Robinson needs to talk about how the Irish economy can improve so young people don't have to emigrate.

I've said this before so forgive me if you've seen it. The Louisiana region went from
riches to rags in the early
1980's as the oil bust took down the savings and loans institutions and threw many of us out of work. We went from saying let them freeze in the dark (oil brought high prices) to please lord, next time we promise to save some of it! Our region, including
our financial institutions, fared much better than the east and west coasts because, I believe, we learned from our experience to avoid the risk and the greed. Ireland can and will do the same. It's making use of its assets like the Irish descendents overseas.

She could help Ireland by chippping in a few of her fifteen ill-gotten salaries and pensions she is shamelessly screwing from the State. She 'presided ' over the early 'downfall years' which the other Mary who succeeded her, followed through! Ditto her moneybags!

Robinson has no idea what she's talking about. Ireland went from the recession of the 80's into the borrowed money boom time of the 90's and 00's - a 'boom' that was a scam that we're all paying for now.

Ireland will always be the source from England and her commonwealth can draw from - the WWII neutrality con served Momma well with food and humans ready to serve. Who knows these truths. People have no full appreciation of the resource that the Saxons can draw from as the need arizes. See the many serving in the British Army and those who were the first of their slaves in the Caribbean and Americas.
