Sinn Fein refused to meet the Queen when she was in Ireland. Now of course they're claiming they misread the Irish people. That's not just a claim, Sinn fein and McGuinness know nothing about the Irish people because they never lived in Ireland.

The Good Friday Agreement (or Home Rule Bill/Act Mk IV) provides for a Northern Ireland Assembly/Executive (ie neo-provincial government). A North/'South' (sic) Ministerial Council (ie embryonic National Home Rule). And a British-Irish Inter-Parliamentarly Conference (ie intra-national talking shop). So let us assemble and execute (laws!). Let us conciliate. And let us counfer asap. All our children deserver a better future than their parents past. GFA, 1997 - Sunningdale for slow learners! Sunningdale, 1973 - Anglo-Irish Treaty/Government of Ireland Act, 1920 for slower learners still. Some posters are still suffering from PTSD from the Battle of the Boyne.

ancavker - the Republic of Ireland didn`t exist either - Ireland was still part of the Union. However the Home rule Bill had been passed and this year is the 100th anniversary of the Ulster covenant which will be celebrated on Ulster Day in September, the embryo that created Northern Ireland.

ancavker - where do ulstermen come from, what anthem does the DUP play at its annual conference, the union jack, ulster flag & 1 other is displayed at Orange Order parades - what is it? Scotland, Flower of Scotland, the Scottish flag, Scotland becomes independent, no guessing where Ulster would prefer to go.

Aughavey: Republicans in northern Ireland have been saying the same thing for 100 years?? There was no northern Ireland 100 years ago.
As far as Scotland staying in the union time will tell. You claim there is growing support for the union, I certainly do not see that on my many trips there on business. The project of Scottish independence in modern times start red in the 1930's, and was in the political wasteland for years. Just look how far it has come in the last 15 years. I have acknowledged that come 2014 the Scots may vote to stay in the union, but they will get devo max, which is almost complete independence. As I said before it would only be small steps from there to complete independence. Northern Ireland just does not fit into the scheme of things when this new reality becomes effective, it offers nothing and contributes nothing. The new Scotland and new England that will emerge will ultimately not want northern Ireland.
