Mark O’Mara on CNN with Piers Morgan - discusses Zimmerman’s financial discussions – VIDEO
Newly released phone conversations between Zimmermans 'attack their credibility”
The defense attorney for George Zimmerman, the man accused of killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, spoke to “Piers Morgan Tonight”, on CNN, about transcripts of phone calls released by the prosecution.
The 80 hours of transcripts were released on Monday by the Seminole County Circuit Court. They reveal Zimmerman and his wife Shelly discussing their finances. Piers points out that “There's no question that they were talking in this sort of simplistic kind of code”.
Mark O’Mara, Zimmerman’s lawyer, believes the couple was merely speaking in code to keep their private finances out of the public knowledge of the jailers or guards. He said, “I would ask the question, who are they hiding the truth from?”
Zimmerman was recalled to prison two weeks ago after the prosecution claimed he and his wife had lied about their finances at his initial bond hearing in April. O’Mara claimed he had no knowledge of the hundreds of thousands the Zimmerman family had raised in public donations, until four days after the hearing. O’Mara made the courts aware of this immediately.
The new evidence also shows that the couples made various withdrawals and transactions to hide their wealth.
During one of the phone calls, Zimmerman asks his wife, "In my account, do I have at least $100?" She answers no, then tells him he has more like "$8, $8.60."
"So total everything, how much are we looking at?" he asks.
"Like $155," she responds.
The Irish American attorney said told Morgan that the Zimmerman’s withheld the truth as they were “frightened” and lacked trust in the system.
However he agreed that these revelations “attack their credibility”.
He said, “They did not tell the complete truth to the judge and that attacks their credibility, and credibility is always an issue in a case like this."
