Tragic episode. Seems like a case of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), often suffered all by military personnel during periods of hostilities. His impending split from his wife may have been a catalyst? Not uniteresting that his former mount Sefton was decorated but he was not. An interesting insight of the priorities of the British military. They could even have made it a senator like a certain Roman Emperor, or given a peerage, where he could have made a positive contribution to the intellectual level of debates in the House of Lords by neighing or braying lyrically.

Could be unrelated but it still was a heinous crime that day.
