Maybe the lad allegedly raped the woman after buying an engagement ring because he thought it would be one of those "legitimate rapes" the US Republicans are talking about.

Todd Akin is on the other line. He wants to know if this was an alleged "legitimate rape."

Maybe it's because Romney reminds them of Cromwell.

TisEyerish--I commend you on your courage and strength. This is a horrible thing for anyone to go through, but especially at the hands of partner! I hope you and yours are well and also the woman and her children in the story are also well--no word on her children???

This is common in Ireland. Partner on partner abuse. Again it reinforces my opinion that the Irish suffer from an infantile culture. Toos the toys out of the crib and see youselves as the center of a universe where you'r the only occupant and make the rules. It's sad, but the examples run from physical abuse (including murder) on one end of the spectrum to parking on and blocking footpaths (sidewalks), which forces pedestrians to walk into the road on the other. There's very little personal responsibility where the individual considers how his or her actions impact on others.

Eh Sean, it was legal for a husband to rape his wife in Ireland up to a couple of years ago. No Sharia law involved.

I fully agree with The Eye... but it is my understanding that Sharia Law allows a man to rape his wife if she refuses him.

TisEye, so sorry to hear that this also happened to you. It takes a very strong woman to report this crime and to divorce the b*stard who hurt you. Youre an inspiration. I hope your life improved for you and your kids after your divorce.

There is no mention as to where the unfortunate child is? This is a disturbing story.

Rape is a terrible thing. Many years ago, I was subjected to rape by my husband and it was a horrifying experience, one I have never forgotten. Somehow, it's even worse than rape by a stranger because it is a person you once trusted and will never be able to trust again. I hope this woman obtains counseling to return her to her former self; my heart goes out to her. BTW...yes, I did divorce him, despite the fact that we had two children.
